Years ago I replaced my steering box and I think I put the pitman arm back on off center, because ever since my steering wheel is not centered when the wheels are centered. I've tried a few times to align the steering wheel and the link at the rag joint but they can only go on a certain way and the steering wheel is still off. I'm ready to put the new centerlink and tie rods back on but before I do I want to try and get the steering aligned. I read on TGO you have to center the steering box first (turn all the way left, then right, then put to center position) and put the pitman arm back on then if the steering wheel is still off it should be just the steering wheel itself. Does this make sense? Has anyone had to do this before?

IIRC the pitman arm is splined and can go on any way. I think if the steering wheel is mounted right, you need to make adjustments with the pitman arm.

Not really,
The pitman arm should only go on one way, that goes for the steering shaft and steering wheel as well. If both of these are installed correctly and the wheel is still not centered, the car needs an alignment. Trying to force the steering wheel or rag joint or pitman arm off by one spline will cause damage.

Yes. IIRC they are keyed.
