Lower air Dam

Ok so i havent really put much thought into this as it was winter and cold as heck, but now its starting to get hot and ever since i took this car from my brother i have known that there was no lower air dam on the car. He put the body kit on there and the air dam that came with it was lower but scaped everyhting he said so he left it off. So there is no lower air dam on the car. Should i think twice about it or should i atleast put on a stock one. The car has the SS hood and the scoop is open so i know some air has to be getting in that way but how much is another question.


The only reason i bring this up is over the past few weeks when the temp has been 60 diving home with my windows open I could feel heat coming from my defrost vent just below the windshield. engine temp accounding to the gauge is perfect and cooling system works great. just def feel constant heat from the vent and cant help thinking the lower air dam might help alittle. I cant notice it when the outside temp is 75 or above.


Any thoughts?

The scoop on the SS hood does nothing for the radiator. I would at least at the minimum put the stock air dam back on. Our cars really need that scoop when were driving on the roads to get fresh air to the radiator.

the lower air dam on my saturn fell off on 287 at 110mph...havent put it back on, and its been fine :lol:

the reason you feel air from the vents is that at speed, the f bodies will allow air to blow in and pass the heater core, even though you had the heat(fan) off, it'll still blow through and give you warm air.

I also vote to get a air dam back on the car.

The air dam is pretty vital to the cooling process as far as know. without it air just passes right underneath the car instead of feeding some up and through the radiator. These cars already run fairly hot.

what if you have the hvac controls set to the cold side? it usually seems to not be as noticeably warm in comparison to the hot side... all with the blower motor off.

i have to dig through the garage and find the dam (it better be in there somewhere) and slap it back on.

yeah u need that dam. its essential.

you need the dam. and if you have a 99-up LS1, the engine temp. gauges are absolutely useless. theyre nothing more then a dial version of an idiot light. either plug a scanner and drive around, see what it says, or used an infrared thermometer on the heads, intake, coolant, etc, and see what it says.
