the 327 block is going to be hydrollic flat tappet but the heads are going to be from a roller motor...so what you do is you order the cam you want, install it and get a push rod tool to measure your pushrod length...

87.....I'm pretty sure it is...what exactly are you doing? I though you were building a 327?

87 was the change over year. The motors switched to roller lifters, centerbolt valve covers, and remote coil distributors.

86 was the changed over from 2 piece to 1 piece RMS but I'm not positive on that.

Yes, you're right on all counts. '87 was also the year of the quasi-serpentine belt setup. There was a serp belt around the crank / waterpump / alt, and v-belts for everything else.

thanks for all the help guys, when im able to build a motor i know what im doing now, but since Vic;s Autobody, located in Clementon NJ, did not properly seal my car and i guess its the primer? that is bleeding through the paint, the whole car has to be redone. but thats ok. the car will be done in around a month, will post up pics as progress is made. sorry for the off topic.

I guess whoever I heard that from was full of it then. I could have sworn everything pre-87 was pure v-belt, but I guess I was mistaken.

I think your only a year off....my buddies 2 87s have regular serpentine with a tensioner.

Nope, that was def. 88+ My 87 and every other '87 I've seen is the serp/v-belt setup.

if the block has 3 tapped bolt holes in the middle of the lifter valley, its a roller block. thats where the lifter retainer mounts.
