Back in '88 I worked at a machine shop for a short while before I got called in for my NJ Transit job. The machine shop job was cool, and I met a good friend named "know it all" Ronald. Ronny "knew everything about everything!" But it was all in a joking way, and he was cool as hell. He was still living at home, so he had mucho toys: a Grand National he bought brand new in '87, a couple of rice rocket bikes, a 65 Dodge Coronet drag car, a 440 6 Pak Road Runner clone, and he decided he wanted a Hemi car so he bought a Hemi Super Bee that needed full resto, but it came w/ enough parts to pretty much finish it up. Well, time went by, and Ronny met a girl, fell in love, got married, and bought a house. Little by little he sold off the toys, and only held on to the Road Runner. That was his car since high school, so it had the most sentimental value. Well, I kinda lost touch w/ Ronny back in the late 90s, and had been meaning to look him up for a long time. So today I went over to see my old roomate who was friends with Ronny, and I asked him how Ron was doing. Well, it turns out that he ha started a full resto on the Road Runner a few years back, but then "life" got in the way: Ronny's step daughter became a heavy
heroin user, and she ended up getting pregnant about 3 years ago. The baby was born with all kinds of problems, and Dyfus stepped in and took the baby away, claiming that the mother was unfit to care for the kid. Well, Ronny n' his wife stepped up and became legal guardians for the kid, and with the poor 'lil guys health probs from his hop head mother, it hasn't been easy for Ron n' Terry to raise the kid. Terry quit her job to basically become a full time "mom," and with the mental and financial strain it looks like that Road Runner may never get done. But I'll tell ya, it was a great feeling to talk to Ron again...as soon as he figured out it was me he started bustin' my ballz and yelling that he was able to keep his number from me for 10 years, but now it was ruined. lol We laughed and laughed and told a ton of war stories. And he put his Grandson on the phone, and that kid is DAYUM cute! I'm gonna see if there is anything I can do to help him out...maybe we can pair up like the old days and knock some of that Road Runner resto out! 8-)

:( That sucks to hear about someone not only wasting their life on that junk but ruining someone else's with it. (as you almost always do w/ **** like that)

good to hear you got in touch with an old friend though, that's always a good feeling

it's amazing how things just get thrown at you in life. most of us adapt, others turn to drugs and/or alcohol to help with the stress of everyday life. sorry to hear about the baby's problems, but it sounds like he's in the right hands now.

and if you get to working on that road runner, you still have my number, right?
