I've got this stuff called Snap Engine Degreaser. It says I need to warm my engine, spray the stuff on, then hose the engine off. My question is, is it really safe to do to my engine? I have a 97 camaro ss and I have heard that if the opti gets wet I'm screwed. Has anyone done this before? any help would be appreciated.

I did it on my 86 2 days ago....I don't have an opti but I didn't have any issues...I would say to tape a bag over it and try not to spray directly at it.

Id say use simple green instead.

Please Please PLEASE protect the Opti! 93-97 cars are the worst when it comes to this stuff. What I did (when the engine was in) was took some old rags, a small spray bottle of water, and the degreaser. I sprayed in specific areas one at a time, rubbed it in, sprayed a little water to the area, and wipe away. I repeated that as many times as it required but you get the point.

Just don't go spraying a hose and you'll be fine.

What i normally do when detailing an engine is take a couple plastic bags and cover the computer air filter etc. anything that may get damaged if it gets wet.... soak the rest of the engine with degreaser if needed scrub the stubborn spots dry it off then take the bags off everything and spot clean whatever will need cleaned

Thanks for the quick replies guys. If i try covering the opti..what is the part that needs to be covered? My waterpump blew a few months ago and poured coolant all over and nothing ever happened, so I'm guessing the plugs and the side facing the engine should try to be covered. I will try that and take my chances, lol.
