anyone have experience with bass tubes?

ok so my camaro has just two speakers as opposed to my civic which has 2 12" subs...

id like to put something in the camaro sooner or later that would hit, but not take up alot of space...i noticed alot of the boxes for third gens basically take up the entire hatch which im not really cool with. (i know camaros arent meant for space anyway but u never know when youll need that space)

what i was wondering is if anybody has had experience with bass tubes...do you recommend them? are they hard to install? any input is appreciated. thanks

I ran a Bazooka tube in my IROC for years and was pretty happy with it. Now I have a box I made that holds 2 10's instead. It takes up the rear well but I can still store the t-tops in the factory location.

If you want to keep the "well" usable you could always do a plate over it with hinges so you can just flip it up out of the way and keep stuff under it.

i keep my system on the rear deck area. i always throw my tops in the trunk so i kept my stuff outa there. the little flap gets in the way so i lay it across the enclosures i have.

in my thrid gen I had a kicker box with 2-12's. took up the whole trunk deck. ended up replacin it with a single 10" passive sub (didn't have an amp built in). I actually liked the single 10" better. I am not a bass head and like a well rounded sound so the bazooka tube was perfect for me. Sounded better then my friends celica with 2-10"s

I dunno if i'm reading wrong but dont put subwoofers in a plate, it will sound like absolute crap. You need a sealed box. Buy two 8" woofers or a 10" and fab something up thats really small on the side of the well.

The subwoofer wouldn't be working correctly and the fact that it doesn't have a the recommended airspace that is sealed would make it sound like garbage. Have you ever heard a good subwoofer in a good box?

I was just trying to ask a question not insult you. Just saying i know for a fact, a subwoofer in a sealed box would outperform a plate with flying colors and wouldn't even be close. If space is an issue build a smaller box by the spare tire or something similar.

i realize that sealed is better...me and my brother just made a box for his vette today...i have been building boxes so therefor i know that sealed is better and if you wanna be technical....ported is better then sealed

Well if you want to get technical that statement isn't entirely true. A properly tuned ported box will sound better. A ported box with a hole cut in it and a piece of pvc jammed into is going to sound like garbage unless it is tuned correctly.

They make subs that are designed to work in "open air" applications like this. I spent quite a bit of time researching it and listening to a few cars with similar setups when I had my first 3rd gen years ago.

oh well. today we made a box for my brothers vette, he had a bass tube and 4 6x9s and we had 1 10 inch sub...we made the box big enough for 2 but only cut one hole as we only has 1 sub and it hits 342764897560986 times harder then the bass tube and 4 6x9s! but he is gunna buy 2 12s and we r gunna make the holes bigger..

I put some poly-fill in my sail panels then put in some Infinity 6x9's. If you got some good 6x9's and an amp you could get them to sound pretty good. Not sure how much bass your looking for tho. Most of the Sub tubes I've seen were self powered. All you needed was Power, Ground, Remote and RCA's. Or you could get a Truck box, there meant to fit behind the bench in a truck so the dimensions are smaller, you would just have to check the specs on the sub so you can match the sub to the box.

i have truck sub boxes in my camaro cause i got them back when i was driving my truck. they fit snug on the upper deck in the back with the amp and cap inbetween. i like it and its easy to remove.

I know there are open air subs but most common subs they sell that are cheaper and that everyone opts to buy aren't open air, at least i don't think so unless they have gotten more common in the past few years.

Make sure you seal off seperate chambers for each sub. And just a suggestion, but 2 12s in a smaller box may not sound as good as that 1 ten in the bigger box :nod: Just something to think about or find out the airspace on the other subs.

bass tubes are ok, i had one in my iroc, i bought a truck box for my jeep, then decided i didnt want it begging to be stolen with the soft top on so i threw it in the iroc, fits perfect does not come close to the top, ill get some pics up tomorrow. it hits hard too.

Grab a bass tube itll add the bass your looking for and allow you to keep your space in the back and not cost alot. Their easy to hook up to. If you really care for a good system get a custom box for the wheel well or go all out like I did and get a custom box for the whole rear well. 10's in a properley tuned box will POUND and still sound very crisp. 12"s will sound alot louder and slam harder but takes away from the quality.
I have a custom box for 2 15"s with a plate on top that allows me to use my 10's. I use the 15"s when I want to hurt peoples ears, o and im only using a 200 watt 2 channel bridged amp!

i just made a box for one 10 inch sub, fits in the small little well in the back so theres a little room above it, took me maybe 2 hours and i have a 700 watt sub and 500 watt bridged amp and it makes my entire car rattle and i have another amp and the panel for the two twelves that i can still put above it if i wanna.

^^^ you should have a bigger amp on that sub if those are rms ratings. id go 800 or 900

rms for the sub is 350 bur i have the bass on negative 4- negative 6 and it makes the car rattle lol. i paid 30 for sub like a year ago, 25 for amp like 2 months ago and box was prolly 10 bucks from leftover wood lol

nice.. was just suggesting you go over cause you dont want to clip the woofers or youll be blowing up something ;).. i had an old pair of visoniks laying around so i plugged them into an outlet in my house :D they blew in about 2 seconds and were smoking.. it was cool, shoulda video taped it.
