As some of you may or may not know, the Camaro team picked 15 men and women from the US and Canada to head up a small team of enthusiasts that would have direct contact with the Camaro crew as well as direct interaction with the Camaro.
This past weekend, the 15 got to see and drive 4 production ready Camaros. 2 were V8 autos, 2 were V6 Manual...yes, manual trans will be available for V6.
Bob Lutz also did a fly-by in one of his jets.
In a nut shell, they cannot release any major info, but they did say that the BIGGEST surprise of the weekend was the V6 car, in which is really surprised them in many ways. This V6 cars will not just be something that someone has to settle for, but be a total performance package to itself.
This is a link to the CZ28 thread started by Scott talking about this past weekend.

Why?
Because who gives a damn? If you truly care Bob Lutz flew over your head you need professional help.

I thought it was cool that Lutz buzzed by them in his own fighter jet. Little over the top, but for a 75 year old ex Marine, what do you expect?

Is the camaro getting the same 3.6 300hp V6 as the CTS? If so thats a pretty badass engine.

It will get a direct injected V6. By 2010-12 all the 3.6 will go DI. The upcoming Chevy Traverse, and all 09 Models of the Outlook, Acadia, and Enclave will get a DI 3.6 making 291hp with an increase in gas milage by about a point over the old SFI 3.6 that made 275hp.
The DI V6 will become standard with CTS soon as well.
It seems that GM will keep 3 engines for Camaro, the DI 3.6, LS3, and LSA.
So far, there is a lot of talk about how surprisingly great the V6 cars were. This is great because the V6 car can stop becoming the bastard child of Camaro, and become its own sports model.
Camaro could be the most powerful coupe in its class, and get the best gas milage as well. Est EPA numbers of the 300hp+ V6 would be 18/27mpg.
The V6 car will perform somewhere between a stock LT1 and LS1 car.

So the 4 cyl one will become the bastard child of Camaro? LOL
So this new V6 gets less mileage then an LS1 car? Or do I get false info from the LS1 guys?

Right now, the 4cyl stuff is a lot of talk.
If it came...the 2.0 turbo engine would make 10 more hp then the Challenger V6, and 60 more hp then current V6 Mustang.
And thats in current 260hp tune. Dial this thing up, 300hp is just a click of boost away.
LS1 was rated under old standards. LS1 is more like 15/23 with todays EPA testing.

Unfortunatly from a tuning standpoint I don't think the bastard child thing will change, The 08' CTS's use a Bosch pcm that we don't even support yet(although I don't think it will be long) but the coding in these pcm's doesn't lend itself to making tuning easy so we'll see how that goes I suppose. In the earlier Bosch pcm's not even the fan turn on/off points are controlled through the pcm from what we can tell so even functionality via the pcm is more limited than an LS3 style pcm.
