I'm the original owner of both a 2002 Camaro Z28 and a 2006 GTO. When I bought my GTO, the Camaro just sat and it's still sitting. You want to know why? Here are a few reasons:
3. The GTO has the 6-speed manual while the Z28 has the automatic transmission. The M6 is a lot more fun to drive and better on gas in the highway. Also, any car with a manual compared to the same car with an auto will ALWAYS sound better.
2. There is no V6 version of the GTO. Unlike with the 4th gen f-body, their V6 versions are a dime a dozen and really, really make them look bad. I will never again buy a V8 sports car or muscle car that has a downgraded, smaller-engine version that a poser can simply buy just for looks.
1. The GTO has a much better interior. There's a night and day difference in this category. You have much better visibility in the GTO as you don't have the long dashboard and raked windshield of the f-body. Also, you can't even compare the looks and quality of the entire interior of the GTO with the f-body's. Hell, the f-body still has the cheap, early 90's plastic GM interior while the GTO interior is A LOT more modern.
0. Even though the GTO is the heavier car, it actually feels lighter than the f-body.
I don't mean to offend anyone, but if you're going for a GTO, get at least a 2005. It's so much better when you have hood scoops, a dual-dual exhaust rear bumper, and a more powerful engine. Of course, you can buy a 2004 GTO and get all of that stuff put on, but do you really want the hassle?

this is a ridiculous statement. v6s are far from poser cars and the V6 model is the reason the fbody will be able to survive in today's market. are you offended that the next gen camaro will probably have a 4 banger?

one of my close friends gave his LT1 Camaro to his younger brother, and bought an 05gto new off the showroom floor.. He LOVED the switch.
But he really liked my SS LS1 too, i'd rate them pretty similar cars. for fun factor and all that good stuff.
his car was smoothe though for sure.

Right, because some of the GTO's in the 60's were real performance machines.:rolleyes:
There's only room for one elitist here and that's for the 'vette owner.:rofl:
I'd take an Fbody over a GTO any day of the week for all around performance...plus at the end of the day the Fbody doesn't look like a wanna be tough guy Grand Am :rofl::rofl:

Thats a stuipd comparison because the the GTO was only supposed to last 3 years. Holden was only making the VY/VZ chassis till 2006 Mode Year, then they were going to switch to the VE platform, which is what the Pontiac G8 is made off of. There was no GTO planned past 2006 no matter what the sales numbers were.
GTO is a hell of a car, and what the 4th gen should have been.

A heavy, bland looking car?

Yep it is a hell of a car, but drving it for almost 2 years daily now I can say this.. Its a quick daily commuter car that when people get a bit older, that dont want to go all out to a lexus but want to get away from the sports car scene. It is a nice medium between that. My old mans 2k Z28 stops, handles and acellerates better than the GTO. Mostly due to weight and the higher CG of the GTO being a big hinderance.

the goat is smoother than the fbody. has a nicer interior....and when i say nicer i mean NICER. the fbody interior was a little cheap, excluding the leather which actually holds up nicer than the cloth.
i like the gto but theyre in different ends of the pool really. The gto is everything that people didnt like about the f body, and nothing that
people liked about the fbody.
the people that have complained about the fbody being too small, too cramped, not enough backseat, no trunk room, not luxurious enough and too rough riding are the type of people that a gto is for. If you want an all out street fighter. Save the dough and get a 4th gen.
Umm F bodies have more trunk space than a GTO and rear seat entry and exit is worse. Tho once you are in the backseat, they are more comfortable than the front.

My old manager had a 06 GTO 6-speed that he just sold to a kid in Queens. I got to drive it a couple times and I came away impressed with most of the vehicle. However, the 6-speed's shifter was a hunk of garbage IMO and def. need an aftermarket unit. Other than that, the power was smooth, the exhaust sounded nice for stock, and the interior and ride were very good. I was looking into purchasing a Goat but the looks are a bit too bland for me and wanted something a touch more aggressive.

And thats the reason why A GTO was a Muscle Car, and the Camaro was a pony car, because GTO's only came with V8's, and Camaro's were for both people who wanted a fast car, or an econo car withthe looks of a sporty ride. I love my V6, and is peppy in itself, adn I would love to havea V8, but my fuel needle moves alot slower then most V8's :D

No doubt about it. If it has to be a brand-new car, then it has to be a Vette. That's the only car I see GM making as a V8-only performance car in the next several years.
