I finally got all my crap together and got classic insurance on the Iroc. Got the car apprassied last week and got the insurance yesturday. You can't beat it. Like 75% less then regular insurance with full coverage. Anyone looking to get their car apprassied let me know. The guy I used was good. Apprassied the car real close to what I was hoping to get.

Which company are you using? A lot of collector's insurance companies don't even appraise the car. They do what's called an "agreed value." I have Grundy and that's what they do. Either way, it's kick ass. I only pay $475 a year for my Firehawk.

I switched to Hagerty Classic car insurance about 2 years ago. Very happy with them. Approx 300 per year with the 50 Mile Flatbed Tow Option. No mileage Restriction.

Agreed Value is determined by the car and condition. Recent photos will be needed.

I went with hagerty beacuase some of the Classic Car Insurance Companys would not accept a 1985 Car, they say it was too new. From what I recall, Grundy Worldwide denied me.

Hope this Helps

Rob

I have a 2002 and Grundy accepted my car, but I think it's under the terms of an Exotic.

I went with Grundy. But they would not even give me quote until I had a value for the car. Hence the reason I got it appraised because as far as I am concerned its worth what i paid for it in 88. But we all know what we think a car is worth and what an insurance company will accept are two different things. I had the car as a pleasure vehicle with allstate but like I said it was way more then this. Allstate even said they could do a policy after the appraisal, but I figured go with a company that actually deals with classic cars. Even with full coverage, my rate is low because my usage for the year will be so low. The guy who appaised it has been doing it for 20 years and I felt that the value was fair.

Well, I cannot say I had my car appraised, but based on what I have done to the car, I gave it a value.

I am interested to getting my car appraised, who did you use ???? Any recommendations would be great.

Thanks

Rob

The guy I used is John Kefalontis. He is part of a group called I-VAN (International Vehicle Apprasal Network) that apprasses cars around the country. Check out the web site...

www.i-van.org/kefalonitis.htm

or

http://www.auto-appraisals.com/

His site gives you a lot of info and his e-mail address is there. Like I said I was happy with what he came up with for my car.

As for milage limits, it all depends on what you want. I put mine down for 1000 a year but I know I will never come close to that. And of course you can't use the car as daily driver. Grundy sent me a packet with all the uses and limitations so you can look it over first.

Check your insurance wording carefully. Most have a mileage limit and the car can only be used for club events, parades, occasional cruise/drive. The QQ plates also have a limit in NJ for mileage. My classic insurance also says the car needs to remain in your site at all times or won't be covered and the car can't be used as a substitute vehicle to drive to work if your daily vehicle is not available. Just make sure you read through everything.

Nothing about an agreed value policy necessarily negates the need for an appraisal (meaning at the time of coverage acceptance, not talking a claim event). A company may still want an appraisal before accepting the agreed value. It may be a certain threshold number (say $100k) or if the number is way off what they might expect given the make/model/etc.

For instance Hagerty didn't ask for an appraisal on my 77 with an A/V of $20k, but if I asked for $50k they might have as that would be stupid high for it.

When my 67 is done I'll be looking to get a policy with an A/V of $75k or more. I expect an appraisal will be in order. My JL8 will likely have to get on for his 69 when it is complete.
