Real nice...I buy 2 f'n cases of beer, and all I was looking for was people to help me drink 'em. Not turn wrenches, not get dirty, just hang out and drink beer. And who shows up? 4 people, 2 of whom were my local buddies. I even had a guy pull in off the street because he saw the car and wanted to check it out. I don't know what the hell is wrong with people anymore. I hate to think what I would go through if I REALLY needed someone's help for anyhting major! :-x

You post the day before about it and expect a bunch of people to be able to come? Really now. I understand it was impromptu, but having 4 people is better than none. People have other things to take care of during the weekend, if it isn't planned early enough in the week it's difficult to do anything about it. And then telling everyone that we are f'ed up because most people had other plans they couldn't get out of last minute is not conducive to having people show up next time.
It was our 1st anniversary yesterday and we were in VT relaxing and then driving through the thunderstorms through NY. Besides, since we had minimal cell service and no cable/internet where we stayed (a cabin near Mt Snow a coworker of mine owns), we had no idea about it.

I was in the hospital getting my finger glued up good after loosing a fight with a hedge trimmer. No stitches since they cant stitch anything on the pad or tip of the finger. The doctor was joking with me even as I was rolling around in pain with my finger sitting in a cup of alcohol. Something about my finger prints never being the same again, so I can commit crimes? Yeesh.
Pics can be provided if desired.
Important safety tip: don't let your finger slip past the front guard on a hedge trimmer. It'll ruin your day.

Believe it or not, but I am a pretty open minded person. But past track records have shut my mind to this, other than sticking to my guns about people being f'd up. I have had many get togethers in the past, and have given weeks, and sometimes months, advance notice. And I always got a lot of lip service and false promises about people who were going to be there. And of course the people didn't show up. I pretty much stopped having monthly meets for unstablebobgable.com, because it was pretty much just a waste of my time due to lack of support. My core guys that would show up were my local buddies who I see on a regular basis anyways. There are over 1600 members on this board, and if you cut to the chase only ONE showed up yesterday. And that was Kirk. [Number 2].
One outa 1600 ain't very good statistics. I'm not counting Fat Brain [BlkbrdWS6], because he is my right hand man and is there for me 24-7, and not just to party. So, add in one of my AMC guys, and a guy who stopped in off the street. And there is the big four. So, sorry, but I'm not impressed with the numbers. I guess I'm just trying to relive the glory days when there would be a buncha beer, a buncha guys turning wrenches and helping each other out, rock and roll blasting, and people not being so f'd up.

It was too last minute for most people to change plans. Add the heat and most people are scared away immediately. Gotta give us a little more lead time. I need to work on both cars and the boat motor and it wasn't exactly a good weekend for doing any of that.

Did you ever say you'd be somewhere and something else came up and you didn't go? Is it really that unfeasible that people's plans do change, where something more important comes up? Yes - there are things more important than UBG, sorry, it had to be said.
There may be 1800 members, but only 300 are active. Of that, I"m willing to bet nearly half live too far, especially with the gas prices. Another portion of members are too young. Another portion work on the weekends. Another portion rarely have a weekend to themselves. Others have kids they can't leave alone, or sports or other functions to attend. You get the point. In the end, maybe only 50 have any possibly of coming. Then it's a matter of seeing the post, knowing where you live, liking you to even want to hang out, and a number of other factors.
Look at the monthly meets for the board. Of those 300 active members, maybe 20 - 30 max come to any given meet. And those are with a lot of planning ahead of time. And those meets have some people that say they are coming and can't for some other reason.
People are not f'ed up. You are assuming a board with 1800 members (200 active) would drop everything and run to your house for a meet with little more than 24 hours notice. Calling people f'ed up is a sure fire way to get them to come the next time, right? [/sarcasm] Personally, I'm offended that you would expect myself and my husband, as well as the rest of this board, to drop everything and come to hang out with you with very little notice, assuming everyone had seen the post and had the free time to drop by.

gas prices, real jobs and a little maturity have turned a lot of people on this board who used to be carefree partiers into  responsible adults who aren't so carefree with the miles they put on their car. we're a far cry away from where we were 2 summers ago where i would have 20 or so people show up at my house on a wed night for a BBQ, and even more show up at my apartment in new brunswick. a lot of us have grown up, and a lot of us are hurt by gas prices that have doubled in that time.

No, there are not things more important than ubg. Do you have a job? Do you take care of a family? Do you pay your bills? If you do those things, doesn't that make your priorites # 1 to you? Well, I learned a long time ago that the only person that is gonna take care of ME is ME! So, yeah, I am the VIP in my world. As we say in racing: Second place is the first place of LOSERS!

Yeah, I know all about people giving lip service and playing ghost when it's time to show. But that is Justin and Tim's bag to deal with. And if they dealt with it by canceling all meets due to lack of interest, people who never put any time in would jaw break about that, too.

Yes, you are the most important person...to you! In my world, James and I are the most important to me...in Justin's world, he, his wife, and his 9 month old are the most important people to him...etc etc, but you are not the most important thing to us, hence our priorities being somewhere else. That means working, or spending time at home on our anniversary, caring for the children/parents, etc etc. Hence things coming up and people not being able to come like they originally thought they would.
The post had my addy and my phone #. What other info should I give? And as I stated before, this was just another episode in a long list of stiffs. There are people here who live w/in God damn walking distance of my house and are nothing but mouth breathers.
Sure, the post had your info. Great. Does that mean everyone automatically knows exactly where you live? Even with mapquest, google earth, and a bunch of nifty technology, many people are still navigationally challenged, and usually avoid driving somewhere they don't know how to get to unless with someone. But, the point is, even if they know where you live or could figure out how to get there, there a TON of other factors, including whether they even like you, that dictate whether they will show up.
Yeah, I know all about people giving lip service and playing ghost when it's time to show. But that is Justin and Tim's bag to deal with. And if they dealt with it by canceling all meets due to lack of interest, people who never put any time in would jaw break about that, too.
**** happens. Emergencies come up. Real life gets in the way. I can see if it's the same people over and over that say they'll go then don't, but I don't think that is the case the majority of the time.

No, I think it's wonderful you were willing to have people, whether you knew them or not, over to your house to party on your dime. I've had a few of these myself back when I lived at my dad's and he'd go away for the weekend. But I was happy with whoever showed up, even if only 1 or 30 people did. I didn't get mad at people because they didn't come. I'm offended that you EXPECTED more than 4 people to come...based on the response in the original thread, not many people were planning to join you anyway (of the 7 posts in the thread, 3 were yours, leaving 4 people who responded, all saying no). I"m offended you wanted expected ANYONE there, let alone the 4 people who did come.

Yes, you have to do all of that too. Good for you. Except you didn't have to pay the gas bill to drive to YOUR house, since, well, you live there already. And, well, you weren't working that day obviously, since, well, you wanted to party. Others did have to work to pay the bills. AND, you didn't HAVE to buy $50 worth of beer...you could have bought a little bit, and if you needed more, bought more, or had people bring it. But, you chose to buy $50 worth, and then you get mad no one showed up. And, you didn't have something else come up preventing you from partying, like maybe some others did.
I could go on and on about every single part of the post. But I'm done. And unless compelled, I'm done posting in this thread.

Dude, the bottom line is that I come from a different era. I've drank with every conceivable type of person imaginable, from shoeless rednecks who were pouring me some shine they made themselves, to millionaires who had the booze flown in special that day. Well, first up, this "random unknown person off the Internet" has a relationship w/ the NJ F body world going back to when there wasn't an NJFBOA club. And with the NJ hot rodding scene well before there was even a WWW. And you popping in here while the credits are rolling basically means you missed the whole movie. But you can have what ever opinions you want, because you know what they say about opinions. And I'm not going to get into a pizzing match with you, because frankly I'm sick of WWW shrinks, noah-talls, and tuff guys wanting to see who has a larger pee pee at the WWW urinal.

Well, here's my bowl of pudding: I tried to do something nice for people, people were unresponsive, I voiced my dissatisfaction, and I get jumped on by people whom I've never met, who have never done anything for or with me, and frankly should have nothing to say on the matter. If the people who have been in the trenches with me said "look man, STFU already!" I prolly would. *Shrug* like I said, I like the "real world" better than the WWW. In the real world I still believe in helping my fellow man, but in the same breath I expect to not get my hand cut off if I extend it in friendship or need.

nah man i understand completely what your saying...im just saying as one of the random unknown people on the internet most people probably wouldnt show up to an open invitation...it just seems kind of rude to impose and show up at someones place that you never met....kinda like a nuetral ground thing....
like you said, i probably have no bearing on what to say on this beings i dont know you and probably will never.
its just sometimes easier to see the entire football game sitting high up here in the stands than to be on the sidelines

You have valid points, and I guess alot of it has to do with a person's "real" personality traits. Some people zig and some zag. And it's all good.
And the bottom line is we are all here because we are fans of the mighty F body, right? :)

BMX,
ASFAIK you are say 52-55 miles form me, which would put ya at a 1 hr XXX min drive. But here is a win-win situation you might want to look into: The July NJFBOA meet is gonna be down on my turf. It is a very important meet, too, because there is going to be a blood drive involved. And ubg is ALL ABOUT giving back to the community. So, I'm going to be there, and I'll gonna try to get knuckleheads from my site involved. It is at a nice, big park, so everyone will be able to be out in nature and relax. And since it's a "public" meet, no drinkin' will be involved, so no worries about having to drive blind and deal with the law. So, come on out and decide if I am a cool dood or not!

My addy is: 607 Elizabeth Ave, Somerset NJ 08873. Like I told the fellers above, the July meet will def be a go to meet and greet ubg. Or we can set something up for some weekend. I'd be happy to have a Monte around. Haven't hung by one 'o those in a while...

On a side note... Having met UBG on many occasions the guy is a great person to talk to. Hell, I almost hired the guy to work for me before being laid off (I never met him before talking to him from here).
Of this board he is 1 of 3 I am comfortable with. Kat being #1, Frosty being #2. All that aside what is the big deal venturing and meeting new people? I plan on going to Jerseyboy or whatever his username's house to help gopher tools and whatever. If Kat goes, or doesnt, Ill be there. If Im rejected (Which I dont think I will) Ill just go to my friends bar for dinner, or home. Not too hard to decide.
I can understand where UBG is coming from because I have frequented this board a lot before I actually registered and have done drive thru's of the "Gatherings" held here. The ones Ive been "Thru" werent huge turnouts and well... Its disappointing.
The gas prices are a BS excuse. I am far from rich but I can afford the 4.05 premuim my Z calls for. I am also currently unemployed, married and have a ****load of bills. Heat? My car hates the heat being I only have one fan cooling a 16 yr old rad and a 16 yr old WP churning it all. But I made it to his house. We can all make excuses and in our own minds they are all relevent but UBG is from an era where "Friends" come and gather to help VIA tools or talk. Im only 33 but maybe Im dating myself. Its ******** to some, but relevent to others.

Bob, with more notice I would have been there. My wife was gone for the day and I was sitting on my ass. Not to mention that you are pretty much only 15 minutes away from me. Let me know about your July get together.

Last time I gave blood I almost passed out. That's what I get for having like 5 hrs of sleep, then having just a donut on my way to the blood drive. Lesson learned . Actually I wasn't laughing at the time, it was a really strange, bad feeling. I barely got out "stop" while I had enough breath to speak.
Lesson learned.

thats only because instead of 9 quarts your body only has 5. so taking a full quart from you is like 20% of your total blood capacity. ;)
