I read in the paper today that crude oil per barrel will be at and estimated $200.00 by the end of this year, equating to 6.00 a gallon for regular gas alone. I was wondering what some of you will do with your muscle cars if gas goes higher than that if you really care about gas prices...does it pay to keep it? Would it make you happy driving it once or twice a week? Next car a toyota prius?

I love my camaro and really dont want to see it sit there 6 out of the 7 days of the week, but then again ill have my degree by then and maybe ill have more cash to drop into it. But im really just wondering what the people who love thier cars would do...

My parents give me that every time I see them, and I always reply that as long as I can afford it I am driving it. Granted soon enough most of my paycheck will go into it, but what the hell its either gas or car mods. :mrgreen:

Honestly, at this point, I look at it as a luxury. I own a Jeep Wrangler on 33" tires and a VW Jetta wagon (Family car) that gets 30 mpg. I routinely drive the Jetta for my daily 80 mile round trip commute, but that doesn't stop me from taking the 15 mpg Jeep once or twice a week. The weather's nice, I wanna ride around with my top down and the doors off...taking the Jeep.

When and if gas reaches that ridiculous price, I'm not selling my toys. I will drive them a lot less, but they are a passion to me. When I'm not spending time with the family, I'm in the garage or on the trails. I look at it like owning a boat. If you own a boat, you spend a great deal on fuel to go out for the day and it's worth the pleasure you get out of it.

so far i haveht even started my car this season. all i have left to do is install the fuel lines. i dont even bother with it because i know that onces its done i not going to use it. so sadly it is probably going to sit in my garage on jackstands for the next couple of seasons.

As of right now, it looks like I will be selling the car not because of gas prices, just more out of loss of interest and increased frustration. The price of gas certainly doesnt help, but the money from the car can be used in a few years towards the purchase of a home, and what not. I will be holding onto other projects for the future, but I know my truck will be getting parked by the end of the year anyways, and I will be looking for something better on fuel.

I look at it like owning a boat. If you own a boat, you spend a great deal on fuel to go out for the day and it's worth the pleasure you get out of it.

Ive got a guy who has wanted the car for 5-6 years now before it was even on the road (the first time) and he replied to my email stating that he will still buy it and for the price I told him a while ago. I also told him that it would probably have a 350/th350 or 700r/stock 10bolt and he was completely fine with it. I just need to work up the want to pull all my stuff again and put it back together. Id say within the next 6 months the car will most likely be gone.

In all honesty, due to this Ill more than likely finally quit smoking. The price difference should make up for the gas. I drive my 99 Exploder Sport for the most part but still drive the Z when I want to. If the Wife and I go anywhere far we use her '04 Jetta (2.0L Auto). The biggest thing Ive done so far is carry more cash on me for gas. The Credit-Cash difference at the pumps annoys me.

my car is a weekend car, so gas price doesn't really matter. my truck on the other hand, well that just sucks. its already costing over 100 bux to fill the tank. F*** the greedy oil companies and tree hugging hippies!

by then i'll be driving only 1/3 of the calendar year and taking mass transit to get around so it won't bother me. part of me is happy because this is teaching some to downsize and stop being wasteful; and also to stop living beyond their means.

I'm already prepared for it. The Camaro is going on collectors insurance for sure by the end of the year and its already restricted to weekend use anyway. I have a 4cyl S10 that gets good gas mileage, and I have a motorcycle. I say bring it on, I'm not going to let gas prices restrict me from the things I enjoy in life.

I currently don't pay for gas, so nothing will change....But I average about 18 (17.8 last tank) mpg driving around in my truck, Camaro could range from that to more like 20, depending on how I drive it. The boat....lets just say is less than 1/4 of that efficiency.

dude if you mark up your gas just a few cents, a: you are the highest one on the street and people bitch about the penny difference if they come in at all; b: you don't make any profit, its actually costing you money to pump gas; and c:90% of your sales will be on plastic charge cards which take 3% on the dollar in this day and age. gas being 4 dollars a gallon means you need some other means of income. be it a convienence store or a repair shop, you can't make a living selling gas, you lose your life./rant

I know how gas stations and businesses work. Many of my customers own stations. Im just saying it is against the card holder agreement to bump the prices up. Hell, until 1984 there was a Federal Law prohibiting it (Truth-in-Lending Act). Visa and MC to this day prohibit bumping the prices. AMEX frowns upon it if the business still takes Visa and MC and Discover allows it except for the few states that have laws against it.

You are correct, it is a violation of merchant contract, or something along those lines. However to get around that agreement, one must simply offer a discount for goods that one pays for in cash. So in reality they are saying that gas is 4.15 cents per gallon, but if you pay cash today we will sell it to you for 4.05. Simple and it works.

Ive just started dreaming on cars I would buy, But it looks like I will Be getting a civic hybrid in 2 or 3 years if GM or ford doesn't make a more fuel efficient hybrid or better looking one.. What boggles my mind is that honda and toyota have cars with 44 mpg highway. and gm's two sedan hybrids get 27? huh? wtf

Once its time for the GTP to make its exit it will be replaced with a fuel efficient vehicle of some sort, not sure what at the moment but I need to do something as $80-100 fill ups of premium would definitely not be fun.

What sux for me is that even though I work for NJ Transit and can ride busses/trains for free, there isn't a decent schedule layout for me to get to/from work. I'll be dayumed if I'm gonna layover in ******** Trenton for hours...So, I'll just keep working at max MPG in the Cavalier. If worse comes to worse I'll gut it out, as I rarely use the back seat anyways. I'm also considering a Fiero/Ecotec swap for a future project. And the AMX will be in my life even if gas hits 100 bux a gallon. If I can't drive it I'll park it in my living room.

exactly. it will no longer be "what are you going to do about transportation," thats only one part of how it affects us. How are we going to afford food? How will prices of merchandise be affected? How high will the cost of shipping go? Everything that we know will be expensive, and I know I will be out of a job..
