I drive to work all the time seeing these little hatch back ricers. I have started to notice on a lot of them they have these odd Holes in the bumpers... and for the life of me I can't figure out why or what the hell they could be for?

So today on my way into work I took a picture of one with my phone (sorry for the quality).

Anyone care to explain it to me:?:

"Yes, there's a "Replacement for Displacement". Its called Volumetric Efficiency."
I was bored so I tried to find your answer on some civic forums. Needless to say, I am dumbfounded, and still have no answerr.

So the air doesn't get trapped in the bumper? Access to spots to tow them home?

I think they are places to put empty beer cans.

relieve air that gets trapped behind the bumper. Supposedly it serves a purpose on the actually fast imports but it seems to have been adopted by all the ricers that trap less than 100mph.

Since when I drilling holes in your car aerodynamic?

Since when I drilling holes in your car aerodynamic?

typically it isn't but if a body part traps enough air it will create drag. You won't catch me drilling holes in my bumper thats for sure lol

I kind of figured it was something to do with airflow. I do remember having a conversation once with Brandon about air getting trapped up under the bumper... but then again he has a 10.9 car and this is probably a legit problem for him. As for these ricers ... I just think if one of them does it .... they all do I guess.

yeah all of these are called rear diffuseres..i own a civic and im up on some of the dumb things ricers do. they believe air gets trapped behind their bumper so they drill a hole and put the diffusers on.

however, just now that entire honda scene is just now realizing its dumb and they are all stopping it now

I saw that on a 4 door honda civic yesterday at sonic and was thinking wtf? The metal part with the holes looked pretty heavy on the one I saw. It looks so stupid in person.

ironically, that day when i saw it going to e-town, i ended up racing it that night, he blew up the motor on the line, but i saw him running earlier in the night and he was like 10.2 and dropping. i guess his car got scared of my 383 88 iroc vert.

the speed holes are similar to the idea of a huge giant spoiler....it does absolutely nothing and looks a LITTLE less retarded....nope....still looks retarded. oh oh! wait it is sort of a weight reduction i think....nope cause you replace most of the plastic with metal....gah ricers are so stupid.
