so I was down in wildwood last wednesday night with my friend, hanging out by the pool having a beer or two... I go to turn around to start running toward my room when I trip over a leg of a chair and go flying and land hard on the concrete. I try to get up and my left leg gives out on me and I feel a real strong burning sensation in my knee(this is when I knew something was wrong) so I look down and see a good inch to 2 inch divot where my kneecap should be.. Long story short, get taken to Cape May regional, get xrays done and the dr says I broke my kneecap in half as he gives me some morphine to help ease the pain.. My parents came and drove me home and took me to an orthopedic surgeon in paramus.. I'm supposed to go to Hackensack hospital to get the surgery done on thursday (they have to put some screws in and wire my the 2 pieces of my kneecap back together).. So now I'm chillin in bed on percocet anxiously waiting to get the surgery over with so I don't have to deal with this pain anymore.. What a crappy way to end my summer.. Heres a pic of my leg after most of the swelling went down and I also took a pic of my xray..

damn that sucks. I know how you feel. two weeks ago I was surfing and my board went up and landed on my head tip first. cracking it. ended up getting 15 staples in my head. Hurt like a bitch.

You should have paid up before they came looking for you and you "fell over the leg of a chair"

Youch. James has pins in his kneecaps (I think both?) from having them relocated. But he didn't break them. Here's hoping for a quick recovery.

Haha thanks guys (my dad cracked that same joke, lol ).. I've never broken a bone up until now and it sucks more than I thought.. The one good thing is there's no tendon damage so I should be able to semi-walk agai.n in 2-3 months without crutches and 100% recovered in about a year.. Only things I'm kinda mad about are work, school and the TA.. Im going to get disability but I'm not sure for how long yet, and I have no idea how I'm going to sit in class and pay attention with my knee hurting.. I was gunna start prepping the TA for paint but I guess thats going to have to wait awhile.. I just need something to do to keep me occupied while I'm cooped up in the house all day because I'm already starting to go crazy, tv and the computer are my only sources to the outside world and im beginning to get sick of them.

thanks everyone.. yea the impact was real hard.. i just got back from surgery 5 mins ago, it went a little differently than expected. apparently 1/3 of my knee was crushed so the surgeon took that out and then wired the other 2/3rds back together ... i'm going to listen to everything they tell me with pt, and im not going to push it as i don't want to further prolong the recovery.

that rolling stool idea isn't such a bad idea, except the TA is parked on the hill outside my house and with my luck id probably wind up rolling down the block and getting hit by a car or something, lolol.

i had an ACL reconstruction and rehabd it for 4-5 months then went back to playing and tore it again, I didnt skate for a year after the second surgery because i was too afraid to, just started playing again a few months ago and everything feels great, for a long time i was cynical about being active again and everything turned out, it will for you too. Just dont rush back to anything like I did. Watch a lot of TV, enjoy your percoccets and milk the recovery from the girlfriend, i know I did all three

so it's been 11 days since my surgery. the first 3-4 days were absolute hell even with my pain killers.. im able to hobble around without my crutches now but I still can't bend my knee.. should be a few months til i get most of my range of movement back with going to physical therapy.. worst part of this whole thing is i'm being forced to sell my TA due to bills i've acquired from this (it'll be in the classified section soon).. my 12 mile ambulance ride cost me a nice $964, i could fly across the country for that much!! its totally insane, but my f-body days are coming to an end because of this..

sorry to hear that man. figures of all places to get hurt its your knee.... the most used and important part of your body :( I twisted mine and was out of comission for 2 months! Luckily I didn't need anything, but hope you recover well and listen to your doctors.

Your health insurance won't cover the ambulance ride?

where in NJ do you live? this is why volunteer rescue squads are a great thing, but people never want to donate to them to keep the cost up. Next thing you know, your local squad goes from volunteer to paid, and thats how much it costs per ride, instead of being completely free.

i live in river edge, but the accident happened in wildwood so the ambulance ride was from wildwood to cape may regional. i'm looking into seeing how much my insurance is going to cover but with all the bills for the ambulance, the ER, then the surgery at hackensack hospital itself and upcoming physical therapy sessions im going to have to sell my car anyway to cover some of it.. i guess i'll be stuck driving my crappy lil escort for awhile. i am getting disability from work which will help a little but im pretty much SOL with this.. seriously this is the worst thing i could have happened.. i have no idea how i'm going to get to my classes in sept, and then when if i do manage to get there how i'm going to stand for 5 hours for my art classes.

you wont have to stand at school, so that should be the least of your worries. they're required to accommodate you, so just give them the heads up. It's just like if someone in a wheel chair wanted to take the class.

Off topic: what school are you going to for art?

i figured they would have to, but i'm just stubborn and hate being that guy that needs help and has to rely on people to do stuff i normally could do, lol.

im going to bergen community right now. im going for graphic design and finally got all the general ed classes out of the way so now i only have art classes left to finish. i've been working for a ski shop in westwood for 2 years now designing the ads, running the website and have done a few billboards so far and i really enjoy it so i decided to major in graphic design.. if i decide to stay with it, i would want to goto SVA but i could never afford tuition.. but now im having second thoughts about it for a career, and im actually thinking about switching to physical therapy (good money), and keeping the design stuff for on the side work/for fun.

Graphic design is a lot of fun when you have one client and are doing free lance work, and are in school. The reality of it is that the field is over crowded and now with various programs being available cheap, everyone thinks they're a designer. I worked at print shops for 6 years and some of the stuff that people brought in was terrible and they thought they were masterpieces. It almost always ended up being like a microsoft publisher file or something. The field is a lot of fun if you get in the right doors. If you dont, and need to take on other jobs (or less creative jobs) first, you lose your own flare. I was in the same boat as you when I was in school. I started out as a design major at WP, then decided to do something completely different (animal science) and did that for a year and a half, (partially at WP then transferred to rutgers) and ended up just finishing my art degree, but switching my concentration to photo. I do still wish i could have stayed with animal science, but i really had too many distractions going on to be able to concentrate on it enough, and it kicked my ass.
