I think my computer is totally ****ed. During some updating to some programs, a virus came through, mcafee didnt do anything, now my computer is slow as balls, internet explorer does not work, i keep getting popups on my desktop from various virus/pop delete program trials, i have lost access to my c:/ drive, the icon under my computer is gone, the program menu under the start menu is gone? I cant access control panels, nothing, every time i do a window pops up saying its denied by my administrator, IM THE ****ING ADMINISTRATOR OF MY COMPUTER!!!
Now i have all kinds of demo software shortcuts all over the place, little flags popping up with virus warnings, ****!!! Spend a few hours last night and now a few more tonight tring to salvage this thing, finally got back onto the interweb via firefox, but still loads of BS going on......
If someone can offer any help i would be grateful, im running out of ideas

if you have XP or vista, do a system restore to a few days before.
if you dont have them you might as well backup and format the HD

i cant get to system restore and i dont seem to have a disc to do it.
After much cursing and yelling/throwing things i managed to get one of the BS programs removed, and most of my setting back to where they should be. I still however, cannot access my c:/ drive and program files to eliminate the other program. Every 30 seconds or so it give me one of a handful of fake Waring's/popups, IE still doesnt work.
I've used it before, but i dont remember how the system restore works on this machine, i dont remember if it was a disc or on the computer somewhere, nonetheless i cant find it. Where is it supposed to be?

Have you tried going in to safe mode to get access to the C drive? Then run adware/spybot/mcafee etc in safe mode. This should help quite a bit.
Also, a great forum... http://forums.spybot.info/forumdisplay.php?f=22 , post logs of removal software, and they will help remove everything. I've used them a couple of times when I just couldn't get pesky things removed, and it worked great.

avg free FTW! use firefox to go to avg website, download for free, leave it running all night. it will clean your stuff up. i think it puts an icon on the desktop by default, if not you can choose it when installing, that way you don't have to depend on \programs to access it.

i cant get onto AVG's site:-x
I managed to get into my program files and delete both of the programs i know about, but the pop up warnings are still there, and are getting on my nerves.
It doesnt seem like this is a virus, seems like BS scam software purpose built to F-up your computer and make false clames to try to get you to give them your credit card # and personal info.
Its almost humours, these damn little windows keep popping up saying that i am being attacked by various virus's/bad people/trojans, even when i have my network cable unplugged:lol:. Bastards, even time is changed to military time and next to it is "VIRUS ALERT" and everywhere on the computer where the date/time is present it also states "VIRUS ALERT"
hopefully AVG will help if i can ever get on.

Good luck getting everything cleaned up.
Once you do, get rid of all your macafee crap and run either AVG or Avast as your anti-virus. Also avoid IE....stick with FireFox. Your computer will thank you.....

sweet. i was going to say, use this: 1.1 (http://dw.com.com/redir?edId=3&siteId=4&oId=3000-2239_4-10320142&ontId=2239_4&spi=314c1bd6fa4c6e2bf54b76dea6a21d97&lop=link&tag=tdw_dltext<ype=dl_dlnow&pid=10861654&mfgId=6270610&merId=6270610&destUrl=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.download.com%2F3001-2239_4-10861654.html%3Fspi%3D314c1bd6fa4c6e2bf54b76dea6a2 1d97%26part%3Ddl-AVGAntiVir)
since it would throw you right into the download, but you got it to work, so good luck getting rid of the pest.

^ no not that
AVG ran for 16hours straight, just came home a little while ago, and found the computer frozen.. I need to update AVG, and its still trying to use IE to open and IE doesnt work. Im going to have to change the default to firefox, and hope for the best. This thing is still pretty screwed up, but im gaining:twisted:
