So we got a car in at the shop I work at, belongs to a kid who used to work with us. Now he went to school for automotive, so theoretically he should have some damn sense, but he just picked this car up for $3000, so I'm thinking not. I think even a retard would look at this car and go "nOpE, NO gOOd, I noT Buy DiSS"

Anyway, it's a 90's 240SX "drift car"...should be drifted into a tree. It has a "turbo SR20 swap" whatever the hell that is, I don't really speak import. Has a cage, roller paint job with glitter, interiors gutted and panels aren't fitting due to wires blowing out EVERYWHERE, but that's not the worst part, this is...

The frigging turbo is tig welded, yes TIG WELDED to the manifold!!!! Cuz why would you ever have to take THAT off?!?! It leaks like a siv. There's no air filter, zip ties holding in the radiator, wires are just tied together by hand, PCV to nowhere, brackets hanging by nothing, coolant overflow tank is just sitting free, along with the steering fluid can, JB weld on the radiator...the list goes on and on.

So tell me, honestly, has anyone seen worse?

That is a HACK job if iv ever seen one, BUT sr20det turbo swap is actually soposed to be one of the more killer import setups. Alot of the 240's have those swaps these days and with some good mods theyre pretty quick! (google sr20det youll see some sick cars)

That picture looks like a drunk night with my buddy and a engine hoist a 240 and a junkyard sr20 and some walmart tools tho.

er, um... well...
i don't think it was tig welded... that looks like a sloppy mig weld, especially with the extra wire hanging off of there... man, that's bufugly! (butt freaking ugly)

Yep. MIG Weld. Looks like it was too cold, which means it was probably done by somebody at home with a unit that was too weak to properly penetrate the thick metal of the turbo.

Total Hax0r job.

i bet you they wired two car batteries in a series and used a coat hanger to weld it on......and wow! what a hack job. and those two wires twisted together look REAL safe, i hope those are ground wires.

if that car runs, and has the correct supporting mods that car should handle plenty of others on the street easy

BUT I WOULD BE WILLING TO GUESS THAT THE POS RUNS LIKE "STINK"! The hell with making things work right, put on a zip tie, some spot weld, silly putty epoxy and then go out and drive it like you STOLE IT:rofl:! ****, he'll dump the clutch at 8,000 rpm, power shift at 9,000 rpm and if it doesn't blow up(does he really care)blow past you and be laughing:funny: as his garbage can muffler raps all the way to HOBOKEN. :moon:

Honestly sr20det drifting 240's are one import that I wouldnt mind having.
I donno about you guys but if anyone gave me a RUNNING VEHICLE let alone a hacked up TURBO job for free ID TAKE IT IN A MINUTE lol
I think the kid can clean that job up and still have a decent drift car, he didnt really lose to much even after cleaning it up because those swaps arnt cheap, but I hope he learns hi lesson after this bad buy.

who knows the condition or reliability of anything after seeing that crap

I can tell you first hand the car's a wreck, when he showed me the car he went "the motor alone is worth $2000." To which I replied, "good...part it out then, maybe you can get some money back"

It's hacked beyond all belief and honestly, even for free I'd pass. It runs like dog ****, if at all. The clutch feels like crap, every gear is notchy beyond belief(probably partly due to the clutch in all fairness but I wouldn't trust it), every single wire, vacuum line, hose, etc is done 150% half assed, and even the starter is wired to a toggle switch because they didn't know how to make it work proberly with the key. The ricer ground kit is installed with self tapping screws, and the fenders are both held by 1 or 2 bolts because they couldn't even tighten those bolts properly without snapping them.

I can't possibly stress how much of a total and utter piece of worthless garbage this car is. I wouldn't piss on it to put out a fire. At one point I told him to insure it for full coverage and let it catch fire...it's bound to if it runs long enough.

Ricer mentality makes guys like this get off on beating domestic cars...but my question is this, if you beat me with a piece of ****, does it make your car anything but a piece of ****** At the end of the day I'd rather go home in a slower, respectable domestic than some fart canned laughable mess of a car. Just my .02:nod:

I'd be willing to bet that PROPERLY DONE swaps aren't cheap. Hack work to "make it fit" is probably not that expensive.

definitely MIG welds. you're not really supposed to weld cast iron, which is what the manifold is made of.

where is the duct tape? He has everything else.

SR20s are cheap, the labor involved in putting them in correctly isn't. I bet the wiring on that thing it going to be a huge bitch.

He bought it in an attempt to use it as a running car, a daily no less. Then he was surprised to learn it wasn't very reliable.

here's my $0.02. First off, yeah its a good combination for those cars withthe motor, but it needs to be built properly. are theese motors made at the factory to support F.I.? whats the C.R. for those pistons, because a stock engine with a fat turbo, is a recipe for disaster. Another thing that "kids" seem to not think about is suspension as well. im sure you can get it sidesways a little stock, but sooner or later stuff will break under there, and it will also be more difficult to control during a drift. Theres a reason why these drift cars now adays have sponsers, and are built as meticulous as stock cars, because htey are expensive to maintain if they are driven at tracks alot.

What an idiot to but something like that, and think he can use it as a daily driver. by the time he's done fixing it right, he could of bough his own 240 and SR20 motor and swapped it in himself, and had money left over. thats a pure hack job if I ever saw one. Ill be honest, most of us who have a passion for cars, probably bought a turd of a car thinking we could rebuild it n such, but you come to find out its more of a headache, then worth it ( for me it was my 79 maro and 3000GT) but 3K? someone robbed that kid.

there are a couple versions of the sr20 motor. The one from japan generally are turbocharged from the factory. In the good ole usa, we got the shaft and never got a turbo one. Knowing the hack job that the car is. Its probably just a turbo n/a version of the sr20...lol.
