View Full Version : Turn Signals {NEED HELP}
Okay, so my Turn Signal lights do not work; my hazards are still working. I replaced the turn signal bulbs and the turn signal relay (located on the drivers side, underneath the steering column) and the problem still persisted. I took a quick look at the wires and didn't see any loose wires.
What should I do?
Do you think i have to disassemble the steering wheel and change the coil assembly?
Need help ASAP

Sounds like the turn signal switch is starting to go. They're only like Twenty or Thirty dollars.

try a relay first. or even a fuse.
should i try replacing the coil?

check ur fuses, then relays if all checks out, idk. haha
lol ***** where are the electrical geeks when you need em.

How do the bulb sockets look? They could be causing the trouble too.

the hazards work and the blinkers don't? you replaced the correct relay? try switching the relays for the hazards and turn signals. also check fuse number 2. i think your multifunction switch, the blinker lever, is bad.
i'll check the fuze number 2 . but the light bulb sockets are fine and the bulbs are fine too. and I replaced the correct relay.

well if the fuse is good and you are confident with the relay, i would say its the multifunction switch.
i have at least 3 interested buyers for my car.. I NEED TO FIX THIS lol

Could have gotten a bad realy. I would switch them and give a try.
alright just making sure... there's only one relay for both hazards and turn signals right?

there is one relay for each of them. so two relays. the turn signal relay is down and to the right of the steering wheel, closer to the radio/console area. the hazards is down and to the left of the steering wheel, closer to your door. now riddle me this, did you eff up???
I replaced the flasher asm. hazard relay. which is right next to the horn and alarm relay. where is the turn signal relay then if its somewhere else.

i put my hand on the plastic guard above the gas pedal and can feel the flasher clicking over there. its like at the bottom of the trim panel under the steering wheel. kinda where the diagnostic port is. i could be wrong but i doubt it.
i'll check now . is it under the diagnostic port?

it should be above the diagnostic port in that general area. if i had a wrench at my house, i would drop it and look. maybe someone knows better? when i put my blinker on, i feel the relay clicking over there.
theres just wires over there
okay so I fixed it. No, there is only one relay for both turn signal and hazards. and the problem was a blown fuse. I didn't know I had to check both sides of the fuse with the test light . but thanks everyone for your help and input.
and ignorant me was getting ready to take apart the steering wheel/column and replace the coil hahha

i think that was like the 3rd or 4th thing i said? maybe?
lol yeah i know.. i checked it before but i didn't know that i had to use the test light on both sides of the fuse. i used a meter on it and the right came up like 13.37 and i didn't try on the left
damn, i guess one of my bulbs are shortening the fuse out, because the fuse blew again.

the fuse is a 20 rite? if it is, put in a 25 or if its a 25 put in a 30..just put in a fuse thats a little bigger then whats there.
its a 20 and it doesn't matter what fuse u put in it will keep burning up if there's a shortage.

when i have a 20 blow i try a 25 and it usually works.
welll if you have a short in a bulb or something it'll always blow a fuse

Pull each bulb, and use your Ohm meter to check continuity from each pin of the bulb socket to chassis ground. You should get a ground on one pin, but not the other.
Whichever bulb socket has continuity to ground on both pins is your winner, and you'll need to trace that circuit's wiring until you find the problem.
a little off point right now, but the coil in the steering column has NOTHING to do with the directionals... replacing that or even touching it in this case would be stupid.

putting a fuse that is "larger" than the one you remove is just asking for trouble....

will do, I'll do that in an hour or so.

iuno somebody told me to do that if the problem still persisted.

yeah i never thought that would be a good idea.
damn, finally fixed the short. whenever I placed my transmission into reverse my fuse would blow. so i then checked the ground it was fine, but when i looked at the reverse lights my passenger side reverse light filament on the bulb was damaged and created a hot wire. so after i replaced it with a new one.. my turn signals finally worked fine. thanks everyone for your help and advice.
