I just got it a week ago and haven't had MUCH time to work on it. These are just a few pictures, I will take a few of the engine bay and everything so you guys can see what I'm up against. But hey, what's the fun in buying a car you don't need to fix up and put your own touch on?
BTW These are all from a cell phone, sorry for quaity...

Third gen's are fun to work on. I've enjoyed putting (what little) time into my 88TA.
Good luck!

I like that hood, is that what they came w? I have one from some other car I forget what
deadtrend1
09-06-2008, 12:13 PM
no. Thats was from a company that used to be "ASCD".
Firebird hoods were basically flat. You have a formula powerbulge hood that was put on by a previous owner some point in time.

Yeah, that word is pretty commonly used on this forum lol we should come up with a completely new word to replace it.. And about the hood it was put on by the last owner and IDK I like it but it took me a lil while to having any bulge at all lol Geos don't usually have one hehehe

he called it a parts car in the other post. Maybe he doesn't realize its the same car. 500 isn't a bad deal for a running/driveable 3rd gen.

=) The really big thing is that it overheats and it stalls, but the stalling I know is almost definitely a vaccuum leak, as for the overheating.... ?

does it have an air damn underneath?
Jersyboyy
09-06-2008, 03:50 PM
Make sure you have and air dam, and fan shroud. I blew up my motor twice because I waited too long to put those on my car!
Looks good have fun with it.

That depends, what's an air dam? lol and as for the gtas, for sale??
Tru2Chevy
09-06-2008, 10:46 PM
The air dam is a black plastic piece that is mounted under the lower radiator support to direct air from under the car up through the radiator. That's where the radiator gets pretty much all of it's fresh air from, and without it, will most certainly overheat.

Also, check your hoses to see if they collapsed, and thermostat, and jsut for the hell of it, flush the system to make sure it functions properly. Also check your waterpump as well. You could do the whole cooling system for under 100 bucks ( minus radiator).

She says its fine on highway, but around town it heats up till she turns on the AC.......fan switch.

I did all of that and changed thermostat.. BUT like they suggested above... I have no air dam!!!! No one has a random one laying around huh? lol

if its fine on the highway its likely not the air dam...the air dam does nothing in traffic

....................have you been to atco this year...that car looks extremely familiar and the odds of there being to bird like that with 350s and a female driver are extremely slim

wish i still had my 91 GTA. Mine overheated all the time. My cap ahd a small leak so i replaced it and that made a world of diffrence but it still ran hot. All turd gens do that haha. good luck with it. Def get an air damn and make sure stuff isnt crammed around the radiator like leaves. F bodys have a problem with that and there are many TSBs out for that.

You might just want to check that the fan can also rotate freely...... that's why i had my overheat problem...... yours probably won't be that but it is worth checking
and btw its nice to see another chick on here..... and surprisingly you haven't gotten scared away yet! lol

Pick up some antifreeze also, cause you need to drain some of it or else you will take a nice bath when you're under there changing it.

Nah....I just did mine. Keep the new sensor handy and when you pull the old one plug the hole with your thumb for a few seconds while you grab the new sensor. I lost less than a quart of coolant doing mine.
