If owning two cars isn't enough, I had to go out and buy one of these and put myself further in the poor house...

It's a 2008 Gibson Les Paul Standard '60s neck. They just discontinued them and I've been wanting one for a LONG time. I've been playing a MIM Fender Strat for the last 13 years, so I figured I should end the wait and get one while I still can. My cousin is good friends with a guy at Robbie's on 46, so I was able to get a really good deal on it. I picked it up on Thursday and haven't been able to put it down since. It's everything I've ever dreamed of.

The LP, esp in sunburst is just so iconic - and sound so nice. I wish I did not posess useless fingers - all they can do is useless stuff like everything else. :).

What do you guys think... should I put the pick guard on or leave it off? Been toying with the idea.

If you have to ask it doesn't matter to you. :)

Leave it alone looks killer as it is plus then youll be putting holes in the body that you cant undo. Sweet Axe Gibsons ROCK!
pretty sick, like the wide neck to it. But i'll stick with my Schecters,

Yeah, that's the one caveat of it. And I wouldn't trust myself drilling holes in a guitar like this. I'm going to leave it off for now.

Throw Jimmy Page on that list, as well as one of the dudes from Pearl Jam.

nice ax...I have a few my self...I'm more of a ESP/LTD kinda guy. I play a lot of 80's style metal, speed metal, and classic rock all the way to blue and country. I put in a set of Zakk wyld active EMGs and redid the wiring to my liking. I have that set up to go from an acoustic sound to a twangy Lynyrd Skynyrd kinda sound through a clean setting. I run that trough a Line 6 Über metal effect pedal for one sick Master of Puppets/Slayer/Megadeth kinda brutal sound.
leave the pick guard off...better, cleaner look.
what is that? ash body with a maple top?
the 60's neck is a deep "D" shape right? I'm partial to the slim necks myself. hurts the bluesy side of the tone but is great for speed

It's a maple top with a mahogany back, and the neck is mahogany as well. The 60s neck is the slimmer, tapered neck style. The 50s neck is more rounded and fatter.
