Just wondering if anyone here was into distance running?
I got into running earlier this year and I was just looking for ideas of good places to do training runs around the state, especially central Jerz.
I am working up to run a marathon, signed up for the Disney Marathon in January. So I am looking for places with good roads or fairly smooth trails, hills are helpful at this point. I am just getting bored with the same old routes around town.

do you have a running schedule? you should really hop on some running forums, there is a lot to be learned
my buddy is doing long distance running and working up to his marathon (completed his half marathon a couple months ago) and there is alot of safety precautions to take

I have a training schedule. Based largely on just covering distances, that is the easiest way for newbs to get it right.
My pace training and mileage are coming along nicely, I am just getting bored with my current runs. I have been on some of the running forums, not really a good fit for me to this point.

you can run around my shop all day with a broom in your hands if you want then if you get bored of that you can run up and down my truck with a soapy sponge

I use to do track then i quite because i had to work. Just go out and run on the streets. Go to places if you can with higher elevation. Even going to somewhere in NJ with an elevation of 1,000ft or higher can help. Believe me i grew up in hopatcong average elevation of 1,000ft and when i go to cape may and ride my bike or run its so much easier. If you can go out and ride a bike also. Running and biking build different muscles those muscles will help work together for endurance.

I have a cheap bike that I have put some miles on, but it is getting beat. I am trying to hold off until I can afford a good bike because after I accomplish my marathon goal I want to do an Olympic distance triathlon. :)
Maybe I will buy a new bike more sooner than later then. Altitude is tough around here. Trenton has a lot of rolling, small hills, but the elevations isn't more than a few hundred feet above sea level at any point.
Thanks for the advice

I meant off the typical car topics. I know it is the lounge, but running is hardly the hot topic around here. lol

my brother does triathlons. you need to make sure your diet is in check. he was doing i think around 3200 calories a day. eat like 5 meals a day. run at different speeds. when riding, try sprinting on occassion, like inbetween a couple telephone poles. just switch it up whenever you can, so you are always adapting to something different. good luck with all you do!

There are organized running clubs all over the state that run races on weekends. A lot of the people I used to work with at Sony used to run in them. I dont remember the club names, but a lot of local privately owned sporting stores would likely know. There's one up in Ridgewood I think and the owner is also a marathon runner.

My bro does the same. He used http://www.beginnertriathlete.com/ for a while.
Tim, there is a sprint triathlon every fall at Spruce Run. Good place to start.

Run the bike trails near Frenchtown, along the Delaware River. I think there's a marked route for bikes between Frenchtown and Everitt (or something like that) where you park your car in Frenchtown then head out and back. Its like 6-8 miles long.
