View Full Version : you aint done nothing...
... till you've sent live rounds down range from the light side of a wedge formation. We did squad and team live fire training this week. Basically we were doing a simulated patrol, recieved contact, returned fire, dropped down and then proceeded to assault through the objective.
My SAW(M249 machine gun) was deadlined during qualification(my team leader snapped my rear sight off) so i got to use an M4 for the live fire. Its intense firing live rounds with your team leader meters in front of you and only a few metters off to the side, even engaging targets while he's up and moving. Takes a lot of trust in your fellow soldiers. A few small steps to the left or right or if you trip, you could easily kill another team member.
i love this "sugar honey iced tea"(a saying my 1SG uses)
PS: i realized im gonna love this deployment... thye say war messes with your mind... just imagine when i come back... hahahaha

thats so awesome, speaking of having trust in your fellow soldier, my grandpa was in WWII and he said sometimes he was more afraid of being shot by one of his fellow soldiers because you could hear the bullets coming right past you:shock:
heres a video of breeching with det cord... we did ours at this same range, just some other time. Only diff is here they have people stand far far back... for us, our instructors had us stand up against the cinderblock wall 1-2 feet from the charge. I still have the blasting cap shrapnel in my legs and hand to prove it.

How do you like that machine gun? Is it the same gun that a marine machine gunner would be using? what can I compare the weight too?
When Im 18 I want to join the marines reserves as a machine gunner..

50 lbs C-4 in 2 breaks.....some training with the EOD guys at Pendleton....taught mechanical and electrical detonations, as well as blowing the lid off an ammo can with just a blasting cap to show us 'its small, but it'll eff you up'.....
Anyways....elec demo with the 50 lbs.....1 set 25, various styles of rigging it up (some caps, some just monkey fist wrapped det cord)......other side was more uniform with caps, some 'wraps' of det cord.
Yeah...
We were behind a building and 100 yards away it STILL hurt the ear drums....lol. :) Blew them sand bags to hell and back ;)
In Iraq some SF guys showed us some flat and shape charge door breech charges they carried. Never got to hang for those though ;) They're the ones to hang around for some 'fun times' :)
M240 FTW 8-)

an mos 0331 machine gunner in the Marine Corps usually is equipped with the M240B i believe. its pretty heavy...around 28lbs, without ammunition and without the tripod....but the m240 bravo is man-portable. it fires a belt fed 7.62mm round
the m249 saw is a bullet hose, is significantly lighter than the m240, but fires the smaller 5.56mm round.

If i am not mistaken the 249 fires faster than the 240, so it may be a smaller round, but it adds up to more lead in the air. Accuracy through volume, that's my kind of "aiming"
my 249, with bipod, collapsable butstock, long barrel, PAQ15 laser, surefirs flashlight and a 200rd porkchop weighs like close to 35lbs at least
im hoping to get issued an M4 instead now, just a whole lot lighter lol
matt the m249 is fun, but gets annoying to carry when ur doing lame training, in combat it may be more exciting. i love my saw but after doing a month advanced marksmanship class wiht an M4, me as a saw gunner is stupid.
