Its not my first choice for a sports car but... they do look much better in person then in pics and they are awsome cars for what they are and if they were selling for sticker they would be a good bargin as well. I personally prefer the older ones though

Fragile transmission, performance claims that no one can recreate, and a manufacturer unwilling to honor the warranty the car comes with.
It is the most tragic combination of circumstances that Nissan could have ever loaded onto a single sinking ship.

Smart idea, get a 2008 corvette with the ls3 and just do heads and cam and you will have a 10sec 1/4 mile car for alot cheaper, will sound better.

honestly, the car may have been overhyped, but to call the car garbage or ugly is a little but of a stretch. i think the car is brilliant but way overhyped. clarkson put it best when he said the car has no soul.

brilliant? its $95,000 of non-modifiable junk. you can't modify it, but if you actually use it it breaks. And when it breaks, they wont fix it. Sounds like garbage to me.
sorry, if i were spending $95,000 id get me something a hell of a lot better.

Sticker is $77k and most people don't buy a brand new car and start modding it the same day. If you want to mod it, there are plenty of toys in the NISMO catalog that will do weight reduction to your wallet and make your right foot happy.

I've yet to hear people getting one for sticker. Colonial Nissan, the largest volume Nissan dealer in PA is getting $10-15K over sticker, they've already sold 6 of them.

Not if someone is afraid to use the launch ;)
I don't know how a company can build a car, make the sales pitch all about performance, then tell people that if you use it your warranty is voided. It falls completely outside the guidelines of the owners bill of rights and I have a feeling a nice law suit will grow out of it.

would you rather they just not have the launch control and vdc defeat feature at all? the transmission is part of what makes that car so fantastic, but it is fragile. i'd rather they have the features that can be used on occasion than have a bunch of electronic nannies limiting the car's potential at all times. but i do agree that a car manufacturer should make the car stout enough to be abused. if the transmission cannot handle it, it should be beefed up
NJSPEEDER
10-11-2008, 04:28 PM
That's just it, you can't use the features from time to time, you can't use them at all. One you have used the magic button, any ensuing trans failure is your fault and your problem.
I would definitely rather see the car sold without it, at least then it will stay together.

nissan's clause doesn't say you can't use the launch control feature at all, it says "excessive" use will void the warranty. the only problem is that its up to nissan's discretion to define excessive. i think a trip to the drag strip won't void your warranty but once you start driving like one of us, they will take away the warranty.
like i said, i won't be buying a GTR. i know a buddy of mine who will be trading in his 335i in for one very shortly but he rarely does more than an occasional fast off ramp or full throttle run so he probably won't have an issue. i think thats how nissan hopes you will drive during the warranty period. unfortunately, they don't care for us enthusiasts. only the general high paying consumer
NJSPEEDER
10-11-2008, 05:02 PM
It also does not define "excessive", they coudl say you did it twice in the same week and that is too much.
Just think about the level of stupidity here, they put the launch control on, brag about it's performance, then tell customers they can't use it. Wouldn't it have been a better option to give up a tenth or two in the 0-60 time and have a car that stays together?
If you skip past what amounts to false advertising in that single straight line acceleration and look at all of the other performance aspects of the car it is still a good ride. There is just the one, overbearing, detraction from the cars ability to be taken seriously, that stupid launch control.
They let pride win out over common sense and it is going to end up costing them.

whoa, they never said you can't use it. they only said if you choose to use it, they will not warranty the car. kind of like how a company won't warranty a car used for livery service or something. i don't think its all that serious.
this is why i hate nissan btw. they are up there with toyota for me due to shady business practices. oh and Mitsubishi did it also with the evo's clutch. they just took it off the list of warranteed parts regardless of if you ever touched the warranty removal button

...and that's where my problem is. Imagine if GM said you can only run your Z once a year at Atco or they'll ****can your warranty. That's like saying you can't take the new ZR1 above 80mph. If you're going to build a high performance car with a warranty then you need to warranty that car for whatever reason unless it's been modified. Driving style shouldn't play into it.

i agree completely. this is part of the reason i am loyal to GM. and that is they are truly good to us enthusiasts. arguably more so than any other car manufacturer.
