Copper Plus RTV

I just put copper plus RTV on both sides of my copper header gaskets. It says it dries in an hour and fully cures in 24 hours. I don't want to risk starting the car and blowing the stuff out if it's too soft, so how long do you guys think I should wait till I start the car? Also, due to the cooler weather, the side I did first took much longer than 15 minutes to skin, so that's a factor too.

we use it all the time for that and if you dont let it cure it will not work as intended soooo at least 24 hours >> a motor going in a race car is never a thing but a street car becomes a thing -- jz

Most types of RTV will cure slowly this time of year, lower temps and higher humidity. The curing rate should be pretty much linear though, so compare how long it took to skin up to the time the package said it should, and deduce the full cure time from there.

Sounds good, thanks guys. Everything is done (oil, new plugs, header gaskets) and I'm anxiously waiting to start it up lol

curisity why did you go copper instead of fel pro MLS? they need to sealant etc on them and there are cars in 8's with those gaskets.

back when I bought the super comps I was told either copper or aluminum gaskets were good so I ordered a set of copper from mr. gasket at my local auto parts store because they didn't have the "percy's dead soft aluminum" ones. Also, they're reusable and no one told me I should go another route :shrug:

i used copper gaskets on my first motor that was an o-ringed block, id never do it again because of having to use the sealants etc. I have ran fel pro MLS gaskets up to a 11:1 motor/200 shot and never had a problem yet. Theres no problem with copper i just prefer the MLS seriers better myself.

I actually just looked up those MLS gaskets and head gaskets came up :wtf: :lol:
