well my buddy and i started the topend tear down today. i bought the car for 400. the guy said a rebuilt motor was placed in car. however he said it ran fine. then it wouldnt run right. it would backfire through the throttle body. so come to find out. after removing the tbi, it looks like the manifold wasnt seated or sealed tight enough. possibly letting air in. as you will see in my pics where water was leaking into the heads.( SEE PORTS) there were also several loose bolts all over motor. i mean so loose, i could undo with my fingers. man i tell ya. amazingly though the motor is clean. super clean inside. everything is out. tommorrow is the heads and accessories. i will be selling the stuff i dont need. keep an eye out in the classifieds. going on the motor is a victor jr, holley 750dp, mallory dist, camel hump fuelies completely redone with springs good for 600 lift. full port and polish. back cut manley pro flo valves 1.6 rockers. also throwing in a comp cams 286hr cam. whole valve train is comp brand except for valves. i will be removing the ac setup as well. full billet dress up kit, with polished alternator, water pump. i will post pics as project goes along

well went to the garage today. gutted the engine bay. and heads are off. clean cylinder walls. my 1 buddy is a race engine builder who now lives in florida.(sucks) says from the pictures i sent him, it looks like theres not even 1000 miles on the block. its just too clean. he figures someone had a tired 305. swapped it with a rebuilt 5.7. and just put all the 305 stuff back on. the heads were 187's (305) my block turns out to be a 355. so things are going good. when im done. this should be like a new motor.....now to find a set of 37o or 409 gears for my 9 bolt... i want to have my ceramic headers redone. anyone recommend a place. i need my air tubes cut off and patched. then recoat them chrome
