I know if I bought a car from out of state, being from NJ, I would have what, 45 days or something like that to have it inspected? That I am clear on. But what if I buy a car FROM NJ, that has inspection good for a little while still. Do I still have the option to get it inspected right away and give myself a fresh two years? I know the last time I went they asked if I "needed inspection" to which I said no because it was a jeep and it was locally and had good inspection for a few months. Anyone know? I have difficultly navigating the NJDMV website with much success...
Thanks.

I thought you had until the sticker on the car. Although at reinspection you might get a new month based on registration (so < 2 years). I might be wrong though.

The pink paper that comes with registration says
The Vehicle is required to be inspected only if:
--There is NO valid (unexpired) New Jersery Inspection sticker on the windshield
--The vehicle displays a rejection of Collector car sticker
--Vehicle is used to transport children to and from school or school related activities.
If none of the above conditions exist, you should present the vehicle for inspection in the month and year indicated on the windshield sticker.
Below all that it says
If required, inspection shall be within 14 days of ____________
If you wanted to have it inspected you could peel off the current sticker

well you get two weeks when you register a vehicle via "the pink card". if the sticker is still good on the car, you can wait till that expires then go for inspection. you are supposed to get in inspected no matter what, considering the old registration is tied to that sticker, but i haven't heard of any problems leaving the valid sticker on there.

Thank you. As for peeling off the sticker... that is not a bad idea.
