Not too shabby. I'm curious about one thing though, I'd like to know how much GM makes off of each Camaro sold, from my understanding they don't make much off of the 'vette.

The more specialized the vehicle, the slimmer the profit margin. Since the Camaro is on more of a shared platform with more parts bin parts, it will likely have a pretty good margin.

If they can get 3,000 units ordered in 72 hours in this economy, I think it will be a pretty hot seller since things will only be going up from here.

Thats 3k in 3 days.
If its 3k a week, thats 12k a month.
Thats 144k a year.
Thats awesome, and there are no Z28s nor convertables.

Not to be a downer, but you don't seriously think that orders will stay at that pace, do you?

I believe first year production is only supposed to be around 50k units anyway. So I would call selling 3k of them in 3 days a damn good start.

Orders are continuing to come in and once the advertising campaign starts, yes, GM is in fact going to actually advertise the car, more and more of that interested general public will be headed to dealerships to get theirs.

I know it won't be linear math like Al demonstrated, but I do expect to see strong sales numbers from the Camaro.

No, Im not serious. But everyone is finding something wrong with 3k sold in 3 days. Thats less the one sold per Chevy dealer, so Id say that by the end of this week it should be a bit more then 3k.
Will they be able to keep up 3k orders a week for the next year? No, probably not, but 144k units isnt OUTSTANDING for Camaro compared to its past...well, pre-4th gen years anyway.
We act like 100k its some outstanding number!

3k is a great number considering people have only seen pictures of the car.... i wouldnt order anything without test driving it first, or ATLEAST seeing it in person...

Its also pretty damn impressive since GM never announced it publicly. It was announced in a small room at the Holiday Inn at Indy.
It doesnt say on Chevy's website saying ORDER YOURS ON THE 13TH!!

No, they are hoping for 100k+ for the first year, and it'll be an extended model year (2010 model year will run from 3/2009 - 6/2010)

As of 10/27/08, over 6,000 Camaro orders have been received. 84% of these orders have been for the SS V8 version, showing that the vast majority of these orders have been by enthusiasts or high-power performance fans. Breakdown of orders to date:

LS: 2%
1LT: 4%
2LT: 10%
1SS: 7%
2SS: 77%

Supposedly GM was expecting pre-orders to be closer to 50-50, and it may take longer for some of those who ordered SS cars to receive them.

That breakdown shows you EXACTLY WHY GM doesnt like to put together "stripper" cars.
1SS is a "stripper" package with cloth interior.
7% of sales...
More people want leather V6 cars with RS package then want cloth SS cars.

JL8Jeff

I would never pay extra for leather, cloth is more comfortable anyway. I bet most of those 2SS orders are for dealers who want to be the first to have one so they load it up and then will ask $20K over sticker. Those aren't enthusiasts ordering those.

BigAls87Z28

There is no dealer stock ordering allowed right now, just order for customers.

So it probably is a bunch of "investors" looking to be the first to have one and flip it on Ebay for a quick profit. Reminds me a little of the 93 Indy Pace Cars but those were distributed to dealers based on sales. The price is just too high for me to ever consider buying a new one.
