ok so me and my buddies started our own landscaping business and get a call from an elderly woman looking to get rid of some junk. upon viewing all the stuff she needs taken away i see what looks to be a late 70's early 80's corvette sitting under a cover in the garage.
she said its a collectors item...its an 81 stingray with only 4500 original miles on it. as you can imagine everything is mint, the paint looked brand spanking new, interior mint, looks like it rolled off the showroom floor yesterday.
how much do you think a stingray would go for like that? shes asking 60,000. barret jackson worthy?
ill post pics up when i go there sunday to do the job. she said if me and my friends help her sell it she will give us a thousand. sooo would anyone want a car like this for 60k?

i dont feel that an 81 stingray is worth much, i have no idea but i would not think more than 20k, unless its rarely optioned, ro a special version/model, even with the low miliage.

60k? No way. It's not made of gold. I agree with 20k max. They arent really anything special. I love corvettes, but it won't sell for 60, she'd be lucky to get the 20 with the way things are today. 5-10 years from now may be a different story though
i would say its very rare.......since stingrays stopped in 1977

$15-$18k max, probably needs going over as the brakes, motor/trans and fuel system would all need refurbishing from such extended and unused condition. Plus nothing special about an 81 Vette.
alot of people call the 68-82 style (C3) all stringrays, but like mike said, the actual nameplate and so forth wasnt all those years. in 81, there was nothign special at all. no new refinements as far as i remember, now if its an 82 anniversary/collector edition with the bronze glass ttops, rear hatch, and all options in mint condition, with 4,500 miles, one owner will all docs... i could see in the 30-45k range. but 60 is like what youd expect to pay for a really nice original 68-69 427 tripower C3.

If it's an 81 maybe 10g unless it's really nice.

idk maybe the lady is a little off or has a different year in her head. shes 80 years old and couldnt even remember the year her husband passed away. very sad stuff.

None of the latre C3's go for anywhere near that. Even the 78 pace cars and collectors editions struggle to get 20k with similar mileage. Too many people saved them and they aren't worth diddly squat.

Not worth that much by far, but a great find none the less. I love hearing stories about "barn" finds. I hope to find an all original ???? later in life.

under 20k for most buyers, the right person might pay 25k. they are beautiful cars and i really wanted to get one. maybe in my later years.

tell her i've got a buyer that'll give her 5 right now. whatever you do, don't let her give it away.
somehow i don't think you are going to be getting that commission anymore.

ouch.
btw, she probably got the term "collector's item" from her late husband. he probably thought it was, and after watching BJ on tv, got it into his head that he was sitting on pure gold. i called the buyer just to be sure he wants it and he said he would go as far as 8k for it. so it is worth something, just not the 60k that she thinks it's worth.
