View Full Version : Losing Fuel Pressure

I am having a problem with the fuel pressure bleeding off my 98 Camaro 3.8L. I let the car sit over night and pressed the Schrader valve and no fuel came out. Sholdn't the line hold pressure? Is there a check valve to prevent loss of fuel pressure? BTW I'm having a hard start problem after the car sits.

fuel pressure regulator? got a fuel pressure gauge you can stick on it?

The stock GM pumps are notorious for losing pressure when sitting. Just turn the key to the run position and count to ten before you crank it over to start it and you will be fine.

Tried the 10 sec. wait befor starting. Still the same, hard starting.

What should the fuel pressure be at the Schrader after prime?

On most of the newer fuel injected cars it should have around 45-55psi with the key on and engine off. It sounds like a pressure regulator. pull the vacuum line off of the regulator and check for gas, If there is gas in the line then the regulator is leaking. You can also hook up a vacuum pump to the regulator port, If it holds vacuum the diaphragm inside is good. If not replace the regulator.

Edit: Not sure about the newer F-Bodies but on the H platform cars we had problems with a piece in the tank leaking. I think it was a dampener rite after the pump. It's supposed to smooth out the fuel flow after it comes out of the pump. We had a few of them cause a leak down and hard start problem also. But I would lean more towards the regulator.

+1 on the regulator
