As most of you know my keys and transmitter went MIA last week. I got everything replaced today and reprogrammed a new fob for it.
My question is now that I have a new fob sync'ed to the car, is my old one "disabled" for lack of a better word. Just incase someone tries to use it to unlock my car???
when i had the BCM changed in my denali, it wiped both my transmitters out. i still have yet to reprogram one of them. BUT that was with a NEW BCM.
if the bcm was changed and then the new fob was programmed, it should render any previous fobs inactive, however if the fob was just programmed, the old one is still working. Even just unplugging the bcm shouldnt really work since think about it, if your battery dies or gets replaced, you dont need to reprogram your fobs.
only way to cut off that old fob is a new bcm, sorry.

According to the GM manual you have to program all the fobs at once, so if you one do one then decide to add another you have to do them all over again later. You can program up to 4 at once and when you start with new or different ones it wipes out the old transmitters remembered. New BCM means new transmitters need to be programmed because it has nothing in memory. AFAIK they are flashed to the prom so losing power to the BCM will not affect it "remembering" the programmed transmitters

just tried it with the new spare fob i ordered. It does make the old one useless.
isnt there a door key on the key ring with the missing fob?

yes. but with the ign. cylinder changed and a key fob that doesnt work, the alarm will sound off.

i would look through the yellow pages and call around. you probably need to find a place that sells/installs the alarm you have and may need a specific transmitter.
