ESPN reached a contract agreement with the BCS for exclusive rights to the championship games and other BCS bowls. This contract means that the current system will stay in place at least that long.

Some day they need to change something to get this right. BCS stands for Bowl Championship SERIES. With only 1 game to decide the champion, it isn't much of a series.

Their number one claim continues to be that there is no time for a playoff series. That seems odd when you consider the gap between the last league and regular season games and the new years day game is as long as the baseball playoffs.

Did anyone see what Obama said about it? I thought it was funny, but he was talking about how there should be 8 teams that go into a playoff type situation, and thats how find out who the champion is. He said it would add 3 weeks to the season, and maybe they cut a week off durring teh regular season, or move up the season a week, and everything would be fine.

it would take that long to change over anyway

first the athletic departments in each school have to agree
then the schools in all the conferences have to agree
then they have to come together and actually come up with a system that works
then they have to go back to the confrences/schools and get that approved

The althletic departments don't have to agree on anything, just the bowl games have to agree. That is how the computer came in, the bowls all signed the contract with the BCS and then they told the schools that is that and the schools that didn't like it just get to deal with it.

D-1 College football season ends for me with the regular season because I refuse to watch anything BCS-related. The BCS is the biggest farce in the entire world of sports. I'll watch the other divisions that have a real playoff system, but that's it.
