View Full Version : Serius and XM in big trouble

Shares for Serius and XM have fallen more than 90%, to just 17 CENTS a share. And being that both Serius and XM rely a lot on new cars sales from the Big 3 that offer both services, the dramatic slump in car sales hits them too.

XM is also in Acura/Hondas and I want to say BMW?
Sirius is in a few Korean brands. I dont think Toyota has a sat. radio option.

If they go down, wtf happens to all their satellites?
If they go down, wtf happens to all their satellites?
Let's see, the satellites will become space debris just like the majority of other used satellites that weren't sunk in the ocean.

Thank you Mr sarcasm. I meant like will another company be able to buy em up and start another satellite radio or keep XM alive?

I'm not sure if they own the satellites or if they lease them from the government. If they own them and they go under, they'll become property of the bank and sold off. If they're leased out, then the gov will put them up for re-lease.

They go to West Coast Customs to be pimped out.

I belive XM and Sirius own the sats.
I wonder what happens to all the XM-SatNav links that are in so many luxury cars now? GM and Honda both have XM traffic that can work with thier sat nav units in the cars to help divert the vehicle around traffic.

If it's tied into an XM/Serius broadcast, it'll go off the air.

I was one click away from buying an in-car Sirius unit for my truck when I was told about this a few days ago.
I'll be pissed if they go down. I can't drive long distances without my Sirius.

with iPod you have to download all the songs, and think about what you want to hear.. with satellite, no illegal downloading or paying for songs, and no worrying about the songs that you like but keep forgetting to download

i havent listened to any free radio since i got my sirius.
even though i love them... ipods are going to be a thing of the past as well. apple isnt going to last even though i admire them and the way itunes is put together. the music industry as a whole has changed SO much....
the coming years are going to be interesting...

Apple may not have much market share with their computers, but the portable music market is in the palm of their hand, then through 7 generations of iPods they have kept it there. I don't see them screwing that up anytime soon.....

Me too. I HATE regular radio. I dont want to listen to commrcials. If I wanted to do that I would stay home and watch TV.
If that happend would suck for me since I also got it Lifetime for the unit in the work van. I drive 3-5 hours a day and it is the only thing that gets me by. With the merger I actually activated the radio in my Solstice so I could listen to the Sirius channels that I like. XM Sucks and I can understand why they did so poorly but Sirius had a good thing going, now with the 2 together I would think it would be all that much better

I had free Sirius for a year when I bought my truck but after it ran out I just couldn't justify spending extra money on the subscription.
