Only place in the world with a seven star hotel- that you have to take a boat to get to.

And what reason do you have to hate a whole country?

the fact that they waste money on some of the most ridiculous things while people die every day for no reason other than ignorance. something you are rather familiar with.

I'll bet he's never been there and doesn't know anybody who has, either.

it was directed towards the celebrities and how they want everyone to go green yet went to the party in dubai, where they took their private jets, and lived their insane lives.

That was a sweet fireworks display. $20,000,000 is a lot of coin to drop on sparklers, but I am gonna say the results are wroth it.

That hotel looks insane.

As far as Dubai wasting money, ummmm, they have it to waste, so why not. If you look at the quality of life in some of the middle eastern countries, the average person lives better than in most of the US. I can't say I agree with a lot of what they do, but I know that most of the middle east it not nearly as backwards as they are often given credit for.

NJSPEEDER
11-30-2008, 09:18 PM
What scale is it?

Fact is that we as Americans glorify the waste of expendable income on a scale that puts the rest of the world to shame. All the while millions of citizens live in absolute poverty or die from pointless violent crimes everyday.

I am as proud an American as you will ever find, but I am also an honest one. We have a lot of improving to do before we point out the flaws of the rest of the world.

-Tim

sweetbmxrider

NJSPEEDER
11-30-2008, 11:36 PM
We funded Dubai?

UAE is one of the richest and most developed nations in that region. What are they getting from us? Money for oil? That is commerce, I can't see blaming anyone for that.

It's their money, let them spend it how they want.

-Tim

Saying that they are wasting there money on this is absolutely ridiculous. They say most of their money comes in through oil..... Now what happens when they run out of oil? Boy o boy now they have a pretty sweet hotel that is drawing a ton of money through tourism. Make sense now?

WildBillyT
12-01-2008, 08:31 AM
Just to set the record straight-

Dubai is the financial center of the UAE. Their gas and oil revenue accounts for only 6% of the UAE's production. A lot of them got rich on things other than oil sales.

wretched73
12-01-2008, 08:39 AM
I believe the country was still built off of oil, I'm just saying they are getting away from that and tourism is something they are taking advantage of

WildBillyT
12-01-2008, 08:44 AM
Yes, but they are not getting rich directly off of current oil prices like people think they are.

sweetbmxrider
12-01-2008, 04:04 PM

NJSPEEDER

If you are so deeply troubled by waste you shoudl really turn your good intentions to local situations and not worry about what billionaires on the other side of the globe spend their coin on. There are a lot of great local charities right here in NJ that can help you make a difference in the lives of those in need.

O RLY?

Take a look at our culture.

******** who can catch a ball get millions of dollars while inner city teachers barely squeak by. And we idolize them and give a rat's ass about their lives. TV shows about celebrities who blow money on diamond encrusted cell phones and wreck Ferraris are popular while some people still can't afford to go to college. We as Americans are pissed off when we can't waste gas driving everywhere because we are too lazy to walk or car pool. As a society we are allowed to have a throw-away mentality from things as trivial as TVs (hey, if they aren't HD we don't want them) down to cars (it hit 100,000 so it's as good as scrap). Hell, look at us on here. We spend money trying to make our cars go faster when all most of them do is go back and forth to work or school and extra power is completely unnecessary. They have an indoor ski slope which is a collossal waste of money. Well, so do we, at the Meadowlands, and more are slated to be built in NC, GA, and Las Vegas.

Please. It may be more obvious that they are blowing a lot of money but we are just as (if not more) wasteful as a society.

i grew up extremely poor in trenton and know the value of the dollar...i also know the pride that comes with building something out of nothing with the money that you earned.....exactly what DUBAI is doing...building there country into something that can sustain themselves after the oil crisis.

if you think that hotel is cool...check out their 300+ man made islands to replicate the world...

Been there, love it. If you can imagine a tourist location, this is it. MANY speak engrish, or enough to get you where you need to go. Clubs are fun, drinks are cheap, and for you single men, there's TONS of prostitutes from all over the world :)

For you Rugby fans, they host the Sevens (or whatever its called). People from ALL OVER THE WORLD go there to compete. Now you're talking a pub party at night. If you haven't partied with Scotts, Brits, and a gang of rugby fans (and players), you've missed out !!! Guiness flowing like WATER.

Anyhows....to get ON my rant..... Kylie Minogue......like Chris Tucker used to say.

practicality outweighs necessity right now for me. call me a hypocrite.

Diesel would be the best thing for this country if only the tax hound politicians and enviro-tards would let it. Low sulfur = lower emissions than most gas engines. Before I lost my job I was actually considering a TDi Jetta among the cars I want to buy.

that hotel right now is their ''practicality outweighing necessity''. they can get along without any problems with their current economy, but after the oil is done and over with they will have their tourism to buckle them down.

bmx'er.. ok if you think Americans waste money and don't help anyone, stop your bitching and do something about it, because otherwise you are just as guilty and need to shut up. Matter of fact, join the military, we aren't getting rich here, so no need to worry about all of our disposable income to get rid of and contrary to popular belief, we are out there helping people in other countries. The majority of Americans don't know whats going on overseas and never will, they just say "pull out", true we should in theory, but they don't know how many men women and children will be killed the second we are no longer present. Do something where you may need sacrifice yourself for another or for a greater good, then you'll have true heart. So post up when you are enlisted, till then, don't ever say how Americans don't help anyone. Also don't tell me i "don't know you" etc, cause i have no problem with running into you one day and giving you a whole speech in person.

ok that's it, im sorry,, but that really annoyed me.

sweetbmxrider
12-19-2008, 04:01 PM
could you quote where i said that americans don't help etc...? i love how its do something about it, like i don't do anything. i sit here and bitch. i have no problem with the armed forces, don't know where that came from. i have considered enlisting, i am waiting for the family business to settle before i leave it.

my whole discussion here has been the fact that unemployment in this country is out of control. americans living off of welfare is around an all time high. people living below the poverty line is growing everyday. americans can't afford to live in america. yet our celebs can go run around wasting millions of dollars on lavish lifestyles and rarely think any wrong about it. until everyone has the basic necessities to live day by day, i'll think these outlandish ****s over there are POS and can eff off. cooling sand so people don't burn their feet? come on. go in the ****ing water or wear sandals.

i don't know where you got the idea that i think americans don't help etc, i think our pockets are getting emptied and we are bending over and taking it.

the best thing this country ever did was practice neutrality and isolationism.

V
12-19-2008, 04:10 PM
basically how your saying we waste so much money yet people are dying in other countries who cant even afford the bare necessities. The thing is that if we dont spend it, we actually hurt the economy too by not having it in circulation, but if we spend it then we waste it, according to you. So therefore the only reasonable solution would be to use it to help those in those "other" countries you previously mentioned about. Or is it just that you believe we need to make due with what we got and live our lives? regardless if they have the money and wanna spend it... let them.

sweetbmxrider
12-19-2008, 04:32 PM
the fact that we funded dubai and now rich asshats from here are living it up disgusts me. we need to fix america first. the rich spending their money on excess doesn't trickle down fast enough to save our economy. the middle and lower classes need help to get this country back on its feet. you can let them spend the money and enjoy it. it just makes me sick seeing people can make **** that blows your mind, yet people can't eat, sleep under a roof, or get the medicine they need to live.

i originally said i love it and hate it. its ****ing crazy what money can buy you but its ****ing crazy what money can do to you.

btw its dieing not dying.

Adam does share a good point that the super wealthy over paid "rockstars" in this country, and others, spend way too much money on rediculous, unecessary items. BUT, it is their income i suppose and they should spend it to keep money moving, but the amounts of money they have and the small percentage of "rockstars" is barely enough to support any type of circulation of currency. While unemployment is at an all time high, and a lot of American's can barely afford to live here anymore.

And i think a lot of the problem MAY have to do with the fact that we are trying to help a ton of other countries at the same time, and also spending a lot of money militarily speaking.

oh well, what can WE do about it?
