Good news is, before I did that to the engine, I ran a 12.2 spinning pretty much all the way thru first and the 1-2 shift

Before you tear it down, disconnect the blower and see if it still makes the noise. What is that, an Eaton M112?

Yes an Eaton M112, the sound is coming from the middle rear of the passenger side cyl head, I don't think its the blower.

Gotcha. Scratch that then. I was thinking maybe S/C bearings or coupler. Might be still worth a shot, but not likely.

That sounds a lot like a broken rocker, not sure what the equivalent is with an OHC engine, but that is a dead hole noise.
Thee is a chance it could just be the worlds most massive header leak, but with it making that much noise I would think it would almost be visibly puffing if it was.
Pull the valve cover and look around. I have a feeling the failure point will be rathr obvious if it is that loud.

Got it up on the lift, the sound is coming from the bottom of the engine, right above the passenger side of the oil pan, not the top as I had originally thought.

Didn't you just pay a buttload of money for that car because the engine was supposed to be super awesome?

The motor is basicly the same as a cobra isnt it? I know the cobras are forged so it would be weird for you to have a engine nosie. From the bottom isnt good

to me it sounded like big jon talking for the first to minutes... then it sounded like little men with hammers trying to bust out of your motor
instead of starting and listening, pop the bitch apart

motor is basically the same as a Mach 1, aluminum.

ah no forge then. Looks like your gonna have to tear it apart buy a short block but it does sound like a broken rocker or loose either way you got to take it apart
it sounds too fast to be a rod, but i am by no means an expert.
and the machs came with the same motor as the 01-02 cobras, i thought they were forged too.......just no blower

they are close but the Mach 1s come with forged crank but not rods and pistons like the cobras. Only the 03-04 cobras were fully forged. The mach motors also have higher compression ratio and diffrent cams.
not sure if they are interfernce motors but it sounds like valves hitting the pistons.
