I have the 700R4 in the iroc and I've noticed that when I really get on it from a slow roll the rpm's climb to about 5500 (redline) then it shifts and they drop to 4000. Due to TPI my power begins to fade at about 4000 rpm (looking at my dyno chart) I vaguely remember before I did the header swap (crap flowtech shorties to hooker SC LT's) the car would never scream that high. I'm pretty sure the TV cable only adjusts firmness of shifts but could it be that its way out of adjustment and its shifting too late? Maybe I screwed something up when I installed the LT's or its just coincidence...any ideas?

The shift quality sounds horrible, sounds like it is really slipping on that shift. The trans may be on its way out.

I'd try to adjust the TV cable before you tear into the trans. I just had a bunch of problems with my 87 when I swapped the trans. Shift point's were way off and the shift feel was horrible. Re-adjusted the cable and it shift's nice now. If you need a cable or a trans I have both of them sitting in my garage.

Changing the fluid is not going to help a slipping problem like that..

while the trans is out its a perfect opportunity for a converter as well...

You may need to adjust the TV cable..I'm not sure if you did anything to change the adjustment. If not, your trans may be on its way out. Check the fluid quality. If it's burnt, the trans is bad. A misadjusted TV cable can cause slipping during shifts.

I didn't get to it yet because the car is in the next town over but this week I will. The fluid isn't burned or anything and during normal driving it doesn't slip at all, its only when I'm really on the gas. If it does need a rebuild I'll most likely just look for a T56, I miss banging through gears lol

Changing the fluid wont do much but enhance the problem.
When we were talking, I thought you had already tried to play with the TV adjustments.
There is a little slip there...little.

little??!!!! from the video he has posted I would call that more than a "little" slip.

pretty sure its on its way out. fluid level is good and the cable is properly adjusted according to thirdgen.org tech article. I don't have the money to mess with it too much right now but I'll be sure to bring it to a local trans shop who has done much work for numerous people I know, myself included, and get his opinion. If it needs a rebuild then I'll be looking for a T56.
