View Full Version : NHL goes too far........

Sean Avery was suspended by the league for making "inappropriate" comments concerning other guys in the NHL dating his ex's.

It was in poor taste to say that they were getting his "sloppy seconds", but poor taste is hardly a rule of law and certainly not a rule of the NHL. They have always been spaztic about people cutting on teh refs, even in particularly bad cases of officiating, but this is too much.

I don't know what sparked the comment, but anyone who even mildly follows hockey knows that this doesn't even make the top ten of all time Avery antics.

I'd take his sloppy seconds! He was talking about his ex-girl Elisha Cuthbert, yum!

All anyone would have to do is mention how they are banging the woman he couldn't satisfy.

That would /game pretty fast.

Eh, it might be just to tell him that his ******** is getting old..

NJSPEEDER

Come on, he starts fights and talks about designing purses. How can his **** get old when you never know what is gonna come out of his mouth next? lol

I think the league could use more guys like him. Someone who talks it and walks it and that the team knows they can count on to dive into the corner or finish a check when the game is on the line.

what about freedom of speech? nhl went way too far

NastyEllEssWon

morals clause.

you cant speak badly at work about another employee while at work...even if they dont work in the same area as you do.

theyre all employees of the nhl and their respective teams. same difference. they have to abide by the terms of their contracts.

talking smack on hockey related issues is fine and dandy....leave the personal attacks at home...think they would have more class than that.

NHL took the proper action imo.

Mike

negative, they are employed by their teams, not by the nhl, their checks are not signed by the nhl.

Colin Cambell along with Gary Bettman should be fired. Cambell hands out suspensions at will in certin circumstances and nothing in others. If player intentionly hurts another player that player should be suspended as long as the other player is out of the line up. Look at todd bertuzzi, jumped moore for no reason, no reason, broke 3 of his vertebret, moore will never play the sport again nor live without pain, Bertuzzi was back in the line up 20 something games later, thats fair, POS

Really? Am I the only one that thought of this scene from Slap Shot?

http://www.slap-shot.com/Bench3c.jpg

Hanrahan! Suzanne sucks p***y!
Get him outta there!
Watch it behind the net!
Hey, Hanrahan! She's a dyke! I know! I know!
...
She's a lesbian! A lesbian!
- A lesbian! - Son of a bitch!

- What did he say to Hanrahan? - Two points, eh?
Hey, Reg! Reg! What did you say to him?
- I told him his wife was a dyke. - No!
- Yeah! - ****!
Jesus Christ. No wonder he flipped his lid.
Anybody called my old lady a dyke, I'd go ****in' bananas.
His wife is a dyke.
- Jesus Christ. Poor ****in' guy. - Does that make him a fag?
**** him. Hanrahan's an ape. I knew it would piss the **** out of him.
She's a fantastic gal. I mean, fantastic!
I knew it'd drive him berserk.
You nailed him, Coach, in the ****ing head.
- Right in his mind. - He deserved it!

talking about another players personal life no matter how it relates to yours in a professional sport is childish i believe, whether or not the nhl's decision can be justified is a different story, but the personal life should stay personal when it comes to anything even semi-professional

Not everything (speech related) is protected by the first Amendment. I didn't read what he said word for word, but the fact still stands.

They've been looking for a reason to suspend him, he's a thorn in everyone's side. I thought the comments were funny, childish? Yes. Totally out of line? Not really.

At times he has gone too far but I think this is too far on their part. It kind of reminds me of Happy Gilmore and how "he was a disgrace to the game" with his antics but he played the game very well

He was at Paul's Saturday.

That's what Matt and Shane said.

The NHL-PA is just like the NHL-PA where they have that "detrimental to the sport" language. I don't see what is detrimental about something hockey related actually making it on TV when people are watching, but according to them it is.

I stopped following hockey a long time ago. The refs are all terrible, the league doesn't know which end is up, and the game has moved too much towards the pass and skate boredom of European style to hold my interest. Bring back my Broad Street Bullies!!!

In comparison to how much chit is talked on the line of scrimmage in most any NFL games, whats the big deal?

NJSPEEDER
12-04-2008, 12:53 AM
An NFL line isn't normally mic'ed up either. lol

I think Scott hit it on the head, if the NHL hasn't made a big deal out of it, ESPN would have just chalked it up to him being weird again and it wouldn't have ever made the air.

i beleieve they took the right action against avery, good player? sure, but the NHL are tryin to change their image and trying to bring the sport to another level and gain the sport more fans. they can only do that by taking correct actions against the players who **** up and guys like Avery, Ryan Hollweg etc. need a shot in the ass. And i dont beleive they are blowing it out of proportion because he intentionally did it on Camera, like many other players have said, off the camera fine, but you cant go and intentionally say some stuff like that on camera. it was just 100% inappropriate, hilarious but inappropriate
