As Matt said... you MAY get 4,000 for it traded in... private sale, $6,500 max.

its got the updated 00 or 01+ engine. brand new clutch, starter, what not with under 10k on it. i would think that would help out a little bit more

most, if not all dealers wont give you more money because of "mods" or upgrades, they have a book value and thats it. You would be better off selling it privately

thats what i figured i just posted it on craigslist for the hell of it

The car's probably worth about $8500 max. If i remember the pics of your engine it's an 00 engine wish isn't much better than the 98 ls1 besides having better heads. The fact that another engine was pit into the car might even steer people away from the car...

yeah you should demod then trade in. thats what everyone does. if the right person sees it, you will get some good money. car is clean from what i saw.

its a nice car but the dash brings down the price considerably...its cracked in like 10 spots when i saw it. cloth interior. 98 model. the thing that makes your car desirable is the transmission.

how many miles are on it?

Any time you trade in a cr you only get a fraction of the value, even less than a private sale. Best bet is to talk to a few dealerships, see what they will give you as a trade in and then sell it yourself. You will get a bit better money for it and you willbe able to make sure the car isn't going to some random auction house, scrap, or to some retard that won't take cre of it.

the dash has one crack on the air bag cover. once i find one im going to replace it. and i have leather seats(not cloth) with the common wear on them. which i also plan on getting redone

car has just under 108k engine and clutch have under 10k

How much is the GTO gonna cost you? Your car will be a tough sell to get much more than $6-7K if you're lucky. The M6 helps though.

Never trade to a dealer, they will always give you less than its worth. It would be even more of a hit because of the money you have into it. Try selling it yourself for a while.

Sites like kdd, nada and edmunds will give you ball park estimates regarding value, both private seller & trade-in. Remember to be honest in the assessment. With a cracked dash board the car is at best 'average' condition. And 'mods' rarely help resale and never help trade-in, often it hurts both cases.

just use edmunds... kbb is way off of what dealers use

kbb is no where close to the actual price. galves is the book/site most dealers use.

If you are dead set on trading, demod the hell out of it first, and send it to the dealer as close to stock as possible. Good luck, I was tossing around the idea of a GTO for a while after selling mine. If you search you can find a few deals.

I test drove a GTO a year and a half ago when they still had 06s on the lot and 0% financing. They are very nice cars and have come down considerably since then. The only thing is that its not a huge upgrade from what you have. If you never got a 98 then a GTO would be a wise choice. Its all up to you and if you can handle getting raped by a dealer and/or handle a bigger payment then go for it. They are better cars overall after all.

There are many ways that you can work your away around it.
If you want to buy the GTO, then you are gunna have to come up with a number that you can pay. Not a monthly number, but a total number that you want to pay. Find a dealer that has a GTO in that price range, and that fits what you want.
I would go through your bank and see if you can get a loan for that much.
For example, you can afford 23k. So you look around and find a GTO that you like that fits into your range. Lets say its 23k exactly.
So you go to the bank, and the bank approves you for up to 25k for the car.

So then you walk into the dealer and you talk about a price. DO NOT talk about monthly payments. Dont talk about any sort of financing through them. Talk as if you have money to go and buy today. If the salesman tries to get you into monthly payments, tell them you are there to buy the car, and not talk about financing.

So lets say you get the price down to 20k. Thats great!! Good job!
And now THIS is the time where you drop the hammer. You say "oh yeah...I want to trade my car in....what are you gunna give me for it?"
Well, the salesperson is gunna be so on the hook by now that they are probably gunna lose it. So then you talk about trade in value. You work to a number where you feel you got the most for it. Lets say retail price on her is 6k, trade in value is 5k, let say they give ya 4k for it.
Whamo, you now have a 23k GTO for 16k.

Remember that YOU control the situation. Thats the biggest thing that people forget, they are in control. If you dont take control, they you are gunna walk about the door with a 23k GTO you paid 27k for.

Take control, walk out if you feel you have lost control, and worst case take someone there with you that can pull you out if they feel you are losing control.

yup trick to buying a car is to go in there with the mindset that your doing THEM a FAVOR by BUYING the car. i paid 11k out the door (tax titles and tags) for my ion. love the damn car and havent had to make not one payment. not bad for a brand new car

I had my camaro for sale privately for almost 6 months. It was a 2002 camaro z28 m6 with all ss upgrades. 40K miles on it. No one made an offer on it. I traded it in to Dick Greenfield Dodge for a 2008 Dodge Charger R/T. They gave be $10,500 for the trade in. I was happy because I only owed $10k on the car so I made $500 outta the deal lol
