Ok, I might of stretched the truth about friends :) j/k But yeah it was a real blast helping him with that car. He asked for me to come to Laguna if I go there this year to help him as well, I'm friggin excited. There are no pictures or video footage that can do that car justice to be honest.

The Car developed a leak during the warmup that you watched. The trans just got rebuilt and they thought maybe a line was loose, so we go down to the paddock, another teams mechanic put a wrench on it, and gave it just a small tug, and SNAP, the fitting broke, and we were due out on the track in 5 minutes for demo laps, which is what he did, not racing. Well we rigged a hose and bypassed the trans cooler, and everything worked out fine. Turns out it looked like the line was shierd. I dont think I told you guys this, but Ralph Laurens 15-20 MILLION, yes million dollar Alfa Romeo came loose from its straps and banged and beat all around in the transport carrier, well the Ferrari was in front of it, so we believe the Alfa came just close enough and hit the line, but didnt touch the chassis of the Ferrari. The restoration shop for the car wasent that far away luckily so they sent the Alfa there.

Two things are tragic though. That Alfa was driven by Phil Hill to one of his first wins, and his first important win that got his name out there in 1951 at Pebble Beach, and anyone who knows anything about racing knows he is America's first F1 champion. Well he was set to take the car around for demo laps at Laguna, unfortunately he became ill, never got to take the laps in it, and passed away the night I was driving up to Limerock... :( I really wish I would of met him.....
