7 years/$161 million for CC?
I'm all for teams spending $$ how they see fit but it's ******* teams like the Yankees that really screw up the entire market for the free agents. The average salary for mediocre pitchers just jumped up a few million...

They offered him that money a while ago and it took til now to convince him to come to NY, as he hates it here. Should be interesting, a fat temperamental pitcher playing for a team he hates in a city with little tolerance.

Thank you!! but then the players would rally against such a sanction, and then then they'd go on strike, god forbid they make that kind of money in only 3-5 years, and doing something that millions could only wish they could play, or do. I think playing sports is like Driving a car, it's a privilage, not just a job. Theres so many kids out there that play all their life, work their asses off, and never make it, and then these guys that do make it take it for all its worth. They complain if they dont get that multi million dollar deal, and then some of them complain abotu the team, or screw things up for themselves by doing stupid things, such as Chedder Bob carrying a gun.....your a football player, not a thug, grow up.

i agree with you but it's nice to see them finally signing someone thats young for a change. but he's not the whole answer, if they don't get another quality pitcher or 2 they will finish behind the dead sox again.

We've only hung on to Melky because he's Cano's best friend. Melky sucks. It's about time they get rid of him.

The point is cameron is not much help. The team shoud be getting younger & faster, not older.

melky has very similar stats as cameron and has a much better arm from center......oh yeah, and he is 12 years younger

the yankees operate within the rules set by mlb, if any other team in the league had the income of the yankees, they would spend it too

nope....because of all the players they get...they cant replace torre. good coaches are hard to find and even harder to keep.
plus a rod can only hit homeruns when the yankees are up by 5 already. let them need a two run homer to tie the game and he whiffs more than ryan howard after the all star break

Ive said it other threads, Ill say it here..
Yankees were better when they didnt have a billion dollar payroll.
Still doesnt count for the 26 championships the Yankees have.
Realize that if the Phillies won every other year for the next 40 years, they would still be short of the Yankees?
And thats to say that the Yankees dont make it back to the WS over the same time period.

when dallas won 3 superbowls in 4 years the nfl went and installed a salary cap to keep things interesting. mlb shouldve done it decades ago.
either way...yes ny has 26 championships. its also funny that the mlb banks on the yankees winning. heh maybe they got a little bit of extra ump help along the way.
the phillies sure got no love from the umps this year.

Melky has a decent arm, but Cameron is a much better fielder even at his age. He's also known to be a leader in the club house. If the Yanks make the trade, Cameron will most likely be a one year deal. The Yanks have this kid Jackson in double-A Trenton that's suppose to be the real deal in center and he should be ready to come up by 2010. Melky had 3 years to prove himself. It hasn't happen. Good riddance to him.
jackson dosent look any better than melky did when he was in trenton........

Cameron is an old steroid user. They break down easy (see anyone named Giambi). No thanks, I see him as zero improvement. But the Brewers say the deal is dead anyway.
I hope A.J. becomes a star, my kid got his autograph lat year!
melky dosent turn 25 until august, i think his problems last year were compounded by the fact that the pitching blew every lead the yankees had, and it made it blaringly obvious who was slumping......cano played like **** last year too, should they trade him after one bad season?
BigAls87Z28
12-20-2008, 12:12 PM
Melky had a rough year, no doubt, but I wouldnt get rid of him. The kid has a lot of heart, and that was shown a few years ago when the outfielders were dropping like flies, and he was brought in to take up the slack.
He has done so IMO.

Melky seems like a good kid, and is a pretty good outfielder, but he stinks at the plate, plain and simple. Cameron is at least a little more consistent. The Yanks have had serious problems getting their minor league players accustomed to major league pitchers. How many has it been in the last few years that had massive potential, then lost? Let's see... Bubba Crosby for starters.
