No, not a kid. Not yet anyway.

We were at Willowbrook Mall yesterday, and the Wayne Animal Shelter was using an old pet store to showcase some of their pets looking for new homes (in between Radio Shack and Spencers for those who know the mall). So we went in, and immediately saw this cat. We looked at him for a while, then went and shopped. On the way out, we stopped in again, and just couldn't resist. So we asked if we could meet him. So they put us in this little room (I felt like I was in a jail cell almost), and brought him to us. He was sooooo cute. Came right to us, put on a great show. Puuuuuring away, licking at our hands, friendly as can be. So we put in our application to adopt him. We picked him up tonight.

He's 3.5 months old, and he was born in the shelter :( Since he's been here, he's run around the entire downstairs, trying to learn how to get traction on wood floors. He keeps returning to the Christmas tree, knocking down as many ornaments as he can. He's been great. He's not sure what to do with himself, since he really only knows a cage.

His name is Barney from the shelter, but we want to change it. Any ideas?

aww he's cute! as they said above, cats are wonderful when they have the right personality. Some don't really like people, some won't leave you alone.

how about lunch. I would have thought after all the cats at the old place you'd be sick of them by now. you gonna get those claws removed???

nooooo dont do that! just clip them weekly, starting now and he'll get used to it. de-clawing is mean. they don't just take the claws, they take the whole first knuckle. imagine cutting your fingers off from the first joint!

I used to work at a vets office.... the declawing is a pretty gruesome procedure to watch
i'm glad you opted out of it.

just get these....

http://www.arcatapet.com/item.cfm?cat=3882 (might be able to get them at petsmart, i just googled it and picked the first site that came up)

they are catnip cardboard scratching posts for the cat... it keeps them from scratching anything else in the house up and they really love the posts... it gets a little messy but better than having to replace furniture etc...and its nothing a quick vacuum cant handle

sorry but the back claws do enough damage to the furniture clipping might work for you but not my idea of fun especially when it's your skin they are digging into.

Teach them at a young age and they won't scratch. I have 3 cats right now, my oldest is a grey tom cat, complete *********, he'll scratch anything, but we never clipped his nails. I have a 3 year old orange cat that I started clipping at a young age, i think he's only scratched me once when i gave him a bath. other than that he never puts his claws out. my 10 month old orange cat i've been clipping since i got him, and he's an idiot and i don't think knows how to put his claws out. needless to say he's never scratched anything anyhow. Maybe i just got lucky with them, but I think as long as you keep the nails short, they don't extend far enough to scratch.

Scratching post/ scratching carpet FTW!!!!

We aren't going to declaw him as he is being very good - we have dedicated "scratching" area's and he is sticking to them
