Hey guys im picking up a 94 LSX swapped z28 tommorow after work...engines stock, has a k&N LT1 style CAI, catted mid tubes(w/ all air hook ups,no air pump), and a stock ls1 catback..It has a possible header leak along w/ the driver side window motor dead...Is any of that gonna keep me from passing the inspection...Im going to make an appt. w/ Josh next week to give it a once over and take care of the header leak but im just curious what the window motors going to run me

i think you need documentation for the engine swap. good luck. if they are stupid or you go private, might sneak under the radar. wasn't their issues with this car? i remember my buddy looking at it on craigslist.

I wouldn't imagine him having any problems. Pre 96 gets a sniff test, if anything it should have less emissions.

oh no i agree, but the state of new jersey is a bitch like that. just saying if you get a prick, you won't walk out with a smile!

I guess, but then you assume the inspector knows what he is looking for.

ha, well the belt routing diagram and vacuum diagram on the radiator kinda give it up. we are talking state employees though

Ohhh, I have never had the hood popped. Just drive in, brake, forget its a RWD car and schreech away...

No known issues, the trans was recently rebuilt maybe thats what your talking about. The wheels on the car now are firebird 16 in. but they wont be on long. Future brother in law is doing the inspection at his goodyear.

The window motor would normally fail you, but if you have family doing it, then you should be fine.

Yea I never really used it much in any of my fbods anyway..supposedly it kills like 10 hp  . Its only going to be a nice weather/weekend cruiser anyway, dont need it for daily duty.

it does kill some hp, but the significant part is taking the weight off the nose

Autozone sells the window motor with a life time guarantee.

http://www.autozone.com/R,133350/vehicleId,1954602/initialAction,partProductDetail/store,3295/partType,00046/shopping/partProductDetail.htm

Here's a link that details the process.

http://shbox.com/page/windowmotor.html

Fairly easy, just need to be careful not to break the plastic clips on the door. And the window switch cluster can be a PITA to get off/on. Putting in the motor itself is easy.

Window motor swap is easy, Ive done 4 of them. Ebay motors work great for $20 but the autozone warranty is appealing (Ebay motors are slow in cold weather). That write up is pretty good, I wish I had it my first time around. First time install took me an hour with no instructions, so expect about 40 min.

To add to the write up:
1. Remove your front speaker. The install is so much easier when you can reach up from that angle.
2. When you bore a hole into the side panel to get to the rivets, wear gloves. The door panel is a fiber composite; shards of it can get stuck in your skin and they are itchy, also bad to breathe in.

Goodluck with the install, and congrats on an LS1

i wonder if a ls1 rad support and lid would fit under the hood ?

sweetbmxrider
12-19-2008, 03:42 PM
i don't think it does, i heard the intake doesn't clear. it could probably be made to fit with a lot of tweaking and crap, but not just bolted up.

The LSX style intake is pretty popular with guys making a lot of power don't wanna run a single plane. It works, you can either make a shroud custom or trim down an LS1 setup so it clears the hood. Doable yes, worth it, idk.

Cars seems to run real strong(Even though I was driving it in sleet yesterday like an old lady, dont even think I went over 1000 rpms). Nice hard smooth shifts. The horrible screech that the owner said was comming from the water pump on start up seemed to go away after a few miles and by the mini burnout I did at my work wearhouse it looks like the posi is good also  .Now if we could only get rid of that typical LS1 piston slap until it warms up we'd be good :) . The car sat awhile while the tranny was being rebuilt and I think finally getting it out for a few miles worked alot of kinks out.
