View Full Version : Blower Motor on my Silverado

On my 2001 Silvy, the heater blower only works on speeds 3, 4 and 5. Numbers 1 and 2 I get nothing.

Research on the internets shows that the resistor is a common problem. So, I dug in under the dash with my test light and pulled the connector to the blower motor (purple & black wires). I have power at the motor on all speeds.

So logic should be that the motor is bad and not the resistor. But why would it not work on the lower voltages? Motor going bad and the lower voltage can't turn it?

possibly..

but by any chance are the switch and blower resistor on the ground side of the circuit, or did u use a volt meter not just a test light? and you know the voltage is lower.

The resistor takes the most amount of heat at lower speeds. If the feed voltage is constant it has to suck up more of the voltage to make the fan spin slow. At 5 the resistor isn't used at all- all of the feed voltage is applied to the motor.

yeup ... .it was the resistor. Even though I had power at the motor from it. Interesting...
