Anyone had it before? Went today to the Dr. and what I thought was a hernia actually is so I need surgery. The Dr. said if I have it done on a Friday I should be good to get back to work on Monday (I have no idea how accurate that is but the only other surgery I have had was for a cyst). Insight is appreciated. Thanks.

Well, what kind of hernia?
I had an umbilical hernia and that was WAY rough.
One of my employee's had a "normal" hernia and he had the surgery on a thursday or friday and was back to work on a tuesday.
Me however, I was out for much longer as I had a couple other things going on (had the appendix out, ulcers and other things with my esophogus, stomach, small and large intestine).
How much pain are you in? If it is "minor" then you will be fine in a couple days. When I say minor, can you handle car rides with bumps, can you stand up straight, function normally?
Best of luck.

Thanks for your input. I believe it's an Inguinal? As for the pain there is none right now and I'd like to get it taken care of ASAP so as to avoid any that might develop in the future (if that's possible). I drive, walk, run, etc. I go about my day normally save for the fact of the... bump.

I also had an Umbilical hernia and I was out of work for a month......The 1st few days were rough getting up out of bed but then the pain rapidly decreased after that....Put it this way I would go thru that again before getting wisdom teeth pulled again lol..

i don't know names of them but if it's the one closer to the groin area i had it when I was 23 or so. Gonna be in pain a few days can't lift anything heavy for a while because you don't want to re-rip the muscles. One week max for a full motion recovery. Not that bad at all compared to when they cut open my stomach. that was a month recovery.

Thanks I believe it's inguinal, and it sounds like I have the same thing. That's the one thing I don't want to do is re-aggravate the muscle and go through this mess again. By full motion do you mean you couldn't even walk/etc.?

No I could walk but it was very hard to go up steps, stand up from sitting position, etc because all those actions require you using your stomach / groin muscles and it will be painful for about a week. After the week you should be fine, might also want to have someone around to help you upstairs the day of the surgery if you are going to be spending most of the time in your room if you need to climb stairs because it will be hard to go up and down on your own. I had to have my father brace my one side so I could put pressure on the leg and go up to bed
