I work at a gas station so I see all types of cars and yesterday a car came in with a 2011 inspection sticker. The sticker was purple with a big plain 1 in a white square. The sticker is wider than the normal square ones from the past. It looked almost fake. Does anyone know if this new inspection sticker means the DMV has changed how strict they are inspecting cars?

The sticker has nothing to do with how strict/loose inspection is, just a sticker to say that car passed. I wouldn't mind seeing them tighten up on failed and past due inspections a bit. There are some cars driving around town that are down right scary to be near.

Anyone mind taking a pic of one of the new ones? I'm curious to see what it looks like compared to the old ones. (going to be a while before I'm back in jersey)

Well I think the new sticker was made so that it's harder to get a fake one. I know all new cars in nj have to pass California inspection, that's why I asked if anyone knows if NJ is getting more strict with the older cars.

its still the same....for now. new inspection program is supposed to come out within this year, doubt it though. the new stickers are ghey too. they have friendly messages on the back like "hang up the ****ing phone *******!" its nice. they will be somewhat more difficult to fake at first but give it some time and someone will be making them better than the state

hmm...I guess I'll have to watch for that. My car's not due for inspection until 1/10, but if I get a strict inspector that pops the hood I won't pass because of no A.I.R. injection or EGR. I'll have to see how strict they're gonna get, may need to take my car in early before they make the changes.

You can only go two months early.

Here in NC they are getting rid of the sticker and doing it electronically i assume through you license plate a.k.a Tag.

eh it will probably be the same ole thing just more b.s.

its being geared towards 96+ cars and trucks.

95- will be the same ole crap, maybe won't go on the rollers though.

i wonder if there will ever be standards for diesel emissions though

i doubt it. the truckers lobby is just too big, and includes some of those no-necks, too.

95 requires the sniffer. 96-up is plug and scan

Reading FTL, he said maybe no rollers, implying no sniff test.

No way that's gonna happen. The old sniffer test was at idle in neutral so I never understood how they got away with failing a car that was built to meet emission's at idle compared to running it on the dyno at 40 mph. Pre 96 will always have to pass the sniffer and most likely on the dyno unless they determine the cost to maintain the dynos isn't worth it.

eh, they really don't require maintenance. only if they break. but there may be new equipment being released soon that could change how 95 and lower are tested. i doubt it though but there is a possibility.
