View Full Version : Am I the only one that noticed how much Evo's and STi's are going for now?

I've always had a small passion for Evo's and STi's ever since Speed used to show them on the WRC rally show. I like the old style, prefferably 02-06 STi's, and a bigger yearning for a 22B ( the 98 looking STi), but that never came to America. I wanted to check out and see how much new STi's are going for since i have this thing about buying previously owned sports cars. cause you really dont know what theyv'e gone through ,adn I've seen a friend of mine buy a SRT-4, and every other week he's replacing something on it. So I go on their website and price one out. the damn thing starts out at 35K. in the end the car almost comes out to 38K !!! and the damn thing has 25 less horsepower then the older versions, and less torque too.
So I go to check out Evo's, cause I do know Subaru to be a little expensive, but then again all their cars coem 4WD. So I price one, and they start out at 34K for the GSR, and for the one I prefer, which is MR starts at 39K. and isnt the MR edition supposed to be a bare bones editon, it only comes with the essentials?
So my problem is these cars are getting rediculously expensive. I know they are sport tuned, turbo charged, and AWD, but really 40K for them? especially the STi, which downgraded power and they are asking that price. I will say that when the Camaro comes out, they will be more then giving these cars a run for their money. The V6 Camaro will have more HP then the STi, for 10-15K less, saving that much money can go towards alot of mods. sure its not AWD, but the suspension in these have been revised, and tested on Nurburgring. and then the SS version....well were not gonna go there, cause there will be no contest. I still have a want for a Subi or Evo, but even with the used car prices for those around the price of a new V6 Camaro, is there really any thought on what you should buy?
Maybe when the new muscle car/ Pony car wars comes into full swing, they might have to compramise, and reevaluate the price of these cars to make them more affordable to the younger generation looking for a sports car feel without the sports car price. That is one thing the mustang and Camaro have over these cars any day of the week, the affordability, especially in hard times like this.
Anywho, im done ranting, what are your thoughts people. Are these little Asian Sports gems worth their weight in gold, or are they meerly advertising these cars tothe Fast and furious generation with too much money to blow from mommy and Daddy.

They are popular cars that people go all fanboii over. So the demand is high and they can charge a lot.
In my opinion they are not worth that much. They aren't worth very little, just not that much.
Buy used. You can already find Evo X's for high to mid 20's. I even have seen them on auto trader...

And people say the loaded SS at $35-ish is bad. LOL. And it probably gets the same mileage too. I saw an article in C&D last year on a bunch of those cars and was very unimpressed with the MPG. I guess small <> economical.
I would take an Evo over an SS, but maybe it's just me. Actually I'm planning on possibly picking up a used one if I can find it in my price range. After having a 4th gen as a DD in the winter I shall never have one again.

Just make sure you carefully inspect it. A lot of Evos and STIs have been driven very, very hard.

It's you. :) RWD is tough in the snow. I did that for years. Then I got smart (and a job) and bought a DD beater. Of course beater #1 was a 1980 Celica which is RWD and about 2000 pounds wet. So no improvement on wet roads. But I bought it for $500, hit a guardrail and sold it for $700.

I was comparing the early WRX's with the LS1 cars and they get about the same as the a4, the m6 straight up beats them. I was pretty surprised to say the least.

 I know how that goes. I bought my first camaro for 3k, was rearended in it, got 4k from the insurance company, and another bit of change for the wreck.
Whats so surprising about their MPG? just because something is a 4 cylinder doesn't mean it will get 11ty billion mpg, or does it?

Nope. You have to burn fuel to make power, if it's forced into the cylinder or not...

IMO, the new Evo looks hawt!! Very agressive! The last gens looked good, but...eh, it looked like a the Lancer.

I know that...bu the last Lancer looked like crap, so the Evo looked like crap with a wide body kit.
The new Lancer looks great, and the Evo looks better IMO.
