I went to Florida with a couple people over Christmas break and on the way back my car and another where photographed by a radar/camera in Washington DC for speeding.

Here is picture with radar view

http://i220.photobucket.com/albums/dd266/bcgetfresh/newradar.jpg

Now on the back of the notice I received it says the camera WILL NOT take a photograph if it malfunctions OR there is more than 1 car in the radar view. I have the silver car which is only half way in the radar view while the car in front of me is fully in. Clearly there are 2 cars which already goes against what the citation says. My question is do you think I would have a good chance of winning if I tried to fight it? I honestly dont know if I was speeding or not but from the picture it really looks the the car in front of mine should be the one receiving the ticket.

i'd say fight it, if it says that on the ticket. they probably only sent it to you because they couldnt get the other guys plate due to your mirror blocking it

Fight it.

My only question is, why are you giving the Black Power sign to the car in front of you?

what gets me about those type of tickets, how do they know if the car owner was driving. if someone else borrowed your car why should your plate number have a ticket sent to you personally.

That is why they are not moving violations (no points).

Where in DC is that?

There is a section on the citation that allows you to put the info of the person who was driving if it was not you. So they would end up getting the ticket.

This is the exact reason so many other countries have multi camera systems that take a picture of the front of the vehicle to see the driver and the rear of the vehicle to confirm the plate at the same time. The information in then relayed to a computer that creates a file with the two pics and the digital DL picture of the vehicles registered owner and users(in most other countries you have to list ALL vehicle operators), the drivers pics are then compared and the ticket issued to the appropriate person, if the face of the person is covered or can not be matched, who ever is titled on the vehicle registration gets issued a summons to figure it out. Japan and Germany are both really good at the camera thing.

They didn't give you a road/milemarker/etc? I'm down there all the time and want to know where this is!!

definitely think you will win. you can probably request a written affidavit or they may tell you to do that. write a letter explaining the situation like you did here and your case should be dismissed.

if it's really radar it's harder to tell.. some cameras use multiple photos + compare and that can be used to determine which car was speeding.

Hence why I do not have EZpass. People swear Im lying but I have friends that have recieved tickets "In excess of" due to toll booth to toll booth speeds.

Hell, I got an EZpass ticket in the mail on my 92Z. I was "Caught" blowing through the GWB (George Wash Bridge) at 5PM. I owned the car for all of 2 months. I worked (And was documented) from 8AM to 5:30PM. I worked in Piscataway and Pisc to the GWB at any time was a good 35+ mins. Car was purchased about 10 years ago with 25K on it. My Cousin whom owned it before me NEVER took it to N NJ. I never took it to N NJ. I called and told him to send me a photo and they inturn send me a letter telling me the fine and any subsequent charges were dropped.

Fight it.

he may be able to hire a lawyer to appear in his absence, but it would probably cost more than going back down there.

I want to fight it but if I lose then Im stuck with the ticket. My real issue is that Im leaving for basic training in april and I already had get get my juvi record waived to join which was hard enough. If I get a ticket or do anything wrong my recruiter has to redo my waiver. Im about to just say my girl was driving and just give her the money to pay it so I dont have any problems with going to the air force.

I'd say fight it. But from your last post (if it's not $$$) that may be the better option. Let them have their money and save the headache.

got a tom tom? there are maps that have radar cameras marked on them :shifty:

i have heard this but have never seen this. i am willing to admit i have gone very fast through the express ezpass lanes and kept going at a quick pace to the next toll and the next toll and have never received a ticket. i don't know if its only certain counties or even states or whatever.

IIRC that was a trial thing. It'd suck if it was always like that
