please read fully
I cant get xbox live to connect, so I'll start at the beginning.
-Comcast Cable Internet, Motorola Surfboard modem (had it since they installed it back in like 02-03)
-Linksys BEFSR41 router - 1.04.17 firmware
I tried upgrading the firmware but i can't open the damn BIN file
-I am also running through 2 linysys switches but that is not/should not be an issue.
-Router 2 floors up linked to modem and 2 pc's
-Cat5 patch to 1st switch 1 floor down, connected to 1 pc and wireless access point
-CAT 5 patch from there to 2nd switch because I needed 40' cable and only had 25' and 20'. So the HUB is pretty much and extension cord.
ANYWAYS...
Got MTU failure, so I enabled MTU in the router with no host or domain name with a limit of 1364 like XBox wants. MTU confirmed.
ip and dns i put in manually and it all works. XBOX live failed.
Enabled ports UDP 88 and TPC/UDP 3074 and MTU"S fail again.
Refreshed router and all pass and xbox live fails.
I then set everything to auto and went straight to the cable modem and got ip address failed.
I'm at a loss. Is my modem or router too old???? I at wits end.
I put in the TCP address for Wii and the wireless works instantly. Its rediculous.
