I cant get xbox live to connect, so I'll start at the beginning.

-Comcast Cable Internet, Motorola Surfboard modem (had it since they installed it back in like 02-03)
-Linksys BEFSR41 router - 1.04.17 firmware
I tried upgrading the firmware but i can't open the damn BIN file
-I am also running through 2 linysys switches but that is not/should not be an issue.
-Router 2 floors up linked to modem and 2 pc's
-Cat5 patch to 1st switch 1 floor down, connected to 1 pc and wireless access point
-CAT 5 patch from there to 2nd switch because I needed 40' cable and only had 25' and 20'. So the HUB is pretty much and extension cord.

ANYWAYS...

Got MTU failure, so I enabled MTU in the router with no host or domain name with a limit of 1364 like XBox wants. MTU confirmed.

ip and dns i put in manually and it all works. XBOX live failed.

Enabled ports UDP 88 and TPC/UDP 3074 and MTU"S fail again.

Refreshed router and all pass and xbox live fails.

I then set everything to auto and went straight to the cable modem and got ip address failed.

I'm at a loss. Is my modem or router too old???? I at wits end.

I put in the TCP address for Wii and the wireless works instantly. Its rediculous.

So this is a new connection attempt, you never had the XBox hooked up before? And just to confirm, is this the original Xbox, or the Xbox 360?

if ur failing at Xbox Live it might be because u do not have a xbox live account?! u gotta sign up with ur profile and make it a live account, goto the management section and search through there. hopefully this helps

try bypassing the router and just plug it straight into the modem if that works then it is a router problem if that doesn't work then it is either a settings problem or your internet hates xbox live.
also wireless connects differently than wired IMO buy the wireless adapter from walmart and see if it works and if not just take it back
and if your a guilty person just tell them the truth that you couldn't get it to connect lol
also try another xbox if you know some one that has one it might be the system itself.

uh guys, you don't need an xbox live account to connect the first time.

you have to set one up, you don't need to pay for the first month on each account you make.

call up xbox tech support 1-800-4MY-XBOX i think. they will walk you step by step and figure it out.

YES! Got it.

Got a 50' cat5e patch cable to bypass the 2nd switch i was using to extend the cables and I'm downloading the Xbox update right now as I type.

I don't get it, the old cables gave me internet access to the laptop here, but not to the xbox. Strange...

probably the switch that was blocking something small but important
