ugh yet another problem...

so i parked in front of the student center at my school adn ran in to grab a sandwich real quick and go back to my place... i get back otu to the car to start it, and it starts and just dies.... i try again and it struggles and then dies... then it just keeps cranking... i stop trying, then i try again and listen for the fuel pump to make its little humming noise... i dont hear it... i think its the fuel pump... how much does it cost to replace?

Could be the problem you suspect. However, start simple. Did you run the car very low on gas and suckwater or something else into the system/ Had you just filled the tank and gotten a load of contaminated gas? Lokk to basic stuff first and go from there.

A friend thought they had an issue with an IACV when, in fact, it was gas contaminated with a lot of water. Thw weather's been fairly cold and variable lately. Water and condensation in tanks isn't out of the question.

i did just fill it up yesterday, i might get a pressure gauge and hook it up to the shroeder valve on the fuel rail, that would tell me if it is the pump right?

fuses look fine

it was kinda low on gas, i think the tank takes like ... 15.5 or somethign and i put in like 13. something

the thing is, i dont hear the pump turning on

haha yeah, my dad is bringing down his double cuts, he is a sheet metal worker, so this is like what he lives for haha, alot safer than dremeling or sawzawing

I would just drop the tank and replace the pump that way....its really not all that difficult to do it the right way.

I would love to do it the right way, but it is sitting in my on campus apartments parking lot. I don't have anywhere to fix it, or the tools here at school. I don't think I am allowed to do any major work like that in my apartments parking lot. I figure with the cutout, it won't look that major considering I won't have car parts lying all over the place. The car doesnt start, and I don't want to pay to have it towed home, 50 some miles.

I dropped the tank in my 92...it's not hard, it just takes a really long time because you have to be patient with the filler neck. It's a $15 part that shops charge $400 to fix. It's worth it to do it yourself.

so my dad is driving down with some tools tomorrow morning and we are hoping to tackle this... we are gonna do the trap door method, just because of the situation, trust me id rather do it the right way, but my scenario just doesnt work out .... i figure it should only take 2 hours or so at most right? I am not going to rush, it just doesnt seem like it should take all that long once the hole is cut.

It will go quick, I did this on my iroc with Alex when I had to access the pump the second time around. First time wasn't too bad because I was able to disconnect the exhaust to drop the tank but the second time my exhaust was welded so making the panel was easier. I cut a piece of sheet metal and used machine screws and seam sealer to cover it up.

The replacement pump that I bought was just OEM too, and it even came with the bucket, so it looks like i just have to unhook the bucket and hook up the 3 hoses and strainer and ill be good to go.

my dad should be here in an hour or so, so i will be heading out there in a little bit. i wish it would warm up a little :(

woohoo, she lives! the operation was successful, the new heart (fuel pump) worked...i swear those fuel pumps look like a heart.... i had the whole thing done in an hour...she started right up...seems to run a little better too
