Got a new camera yesterday. Ive been saving up gift cards from christmas and my birthday. I got the Canon PowerShot SX10 IS. Great camera. I chose this one because its close to a SLR style camera. I can use external flashes but I cant change the lens. The entry level Canon SLR was just a little high for my budget right now. So I got this one. I also ordered a external flash I should get in a few days.

I took a few pics of a Camaro model I have. I like taking pictures but I never had any classes or training, so I really can say I have no idea what Im doing but Id like to learn more about it and maybe take a class someday on it.

because most of the people who go SLR use Canon or Nikon, not Fuji.
Hate to break it to you but you've got a DSLR not an SLR. :-?
(not to mention, if you had an SLR, you wouldn't want to step down to a P&S)

actually, both of you are wrong. DSLR stands for Digital SLR (Single Lens Reflex), an actual SLR would be the film version. The s700 is neither, its just one of fuji's ultra zoom cameras. And not everyone who goes to DSLRs goes to Nikon or Canon. Sony has has a great camera with the alpha series, and Olympus and Pentax are doing great as well.

Anyhow, to the OP, if you have any photo questions on aperatures, ISO, shutter speed, modes on the camera, etc. feel free to shoot me a PM. I have a degree in picture nonsense ;)

i never said i was a professional photographer.lol. i just get deals. and buy them. what takes the best pictures (in my opinion) is what i use. i was just commenting on another members new camera. not to start a who's right and wrong.

anyway heres a review paste up from pc advisor's site:

Fujifilm FinePix S700 D-SLR camera

Fujifilm's FinePix S700 adds an SLR-style frame to the solid functionality of an advanced point-and-shoot. The Fujifilm FinePix S700's best traits are its long battery life, manual controls, 10X optical zoom, and image stabilization - not a bad combo in a D-SLR.

I don't want to get too off topic and make this a finger pointing game, but I think its important for people to know. There are some manufacturers or websites labeling higher end point and shoots as dSLR cameras. The s700 is one of them, and if you bought it because you thought it was an affordable SLR camera, you were had by the manufacturer. By definition, a dSLR is a digital camera that uses a reflex mirror to take the picture, and thus has removable lenses. If the lens isn't removable, and you cant see a mirror, its not an SLR. If the manufacturer labeled it as such, then they did that as a marketing game, and you were mis-led. It could have an SLR-style body, but sorry, is still not.

Nice buy....I've been saving up for the SX10 as well. I have an S3is that died on me while on vacation, and I loved it.

If you don't mind saying, where did you get it and how much was it?

No worries, Amazon is one of many places I have been watching the price. I was asking the OP where he picked it up in case he found a place that had an especially good deal on it.

If you think it's too good to be true it probably is, I did a Froogle search and one place came up with $275. Looking up reviews of the place revealed another bait & switch site. I almost got taken when I was looking to get my SLR a while back and I'm typically good about these things

I got it at sears because thats where my gift cards were for. I paid $399. If I didn't have the gift cards I would have gotten it elsewhere.
