My boss is thinking about selling his 1987 Grand Prix and asked me what he could get for the car. There's only 2 on auto trader so I couldn't really get a good number for him.

The car has 9x,xxx miles and is in amazing shape for its age. He ordered the car new in '87 and has been run on dealer tags since new, so the car has never been titled. Always kept in the garage at the dealership and under a car cover when he wasn't using it.

Sorry about the poor quality pic, he is going to get the car out this afternoon and I'll try to get some better pictures.

In my opinion, that's not anything special. It's a 1987 GP in good shape with 90,000 miles. I don't think it will have collector value.

I didn't know what to tell him. The 2 on auto trader are both over 10k. I know he's not going to get anything close to that, I was thinking more around 4-5k. With the options on the car it's the closest you could get to a Monte SS on the Pontiac's.

If i saw this car with a "for sale" sign on the side of the road, I would laugh if it said anything above 1k. It's a 22 year old grand prix...

Depends if the others have work done to them or not. Granted it's in good shape, but it's a 22 year old car with a poor drivetrain from the factory.

That's why I was asking. I know Monte's are still going for good money in the same shape this is in. But I didn't know if the re-sale value was the same on a Pontiac G body.

The other 2 on autotrader have less than 15k miles and are probably in or close to showroom condition.

Monte SS's are. Regular ones don't pull that kind of $.

I'd say $3K-$3500 would be a very fair price for that car, but it'll probably go for less. I know you said it has the Astroroof which is rare as hell, especially if it doesn't leak and it works well. Does it have buckets and a console too? That'll improve the value too. Also, I doubt it has the HO 305, it probably has the regular LG4 305. If the 8th digit in the VIN is a "G", then it's an HO motor, but even the Pontiac 2+2 (AKA Aerocoupe wanna-be :) ) came with the LG4.

That would be a great starting point for a fun Pro-Touring car.

It has buckets and a center console but it isn't an Aero Coupe. I think the air cleaner lid threw me off, It has a regular LG4 305 but the lid says 5.0 H.O. Same POS that's in my T/A.

That car looks and seems very nice, I wish I had bought something like that instead of my piece of meat camaro. I don't think he would be able to get over 3000 for it, it's not a very desirable car, although it is nice.

With this economy I'd say nothing special. It's a great looking car don't get me wrong, but tell him not to get his hopes up.

I want a GP 2+2 real bad. I want one and make a real project out of it. I want to make a GTO, as if GM were gong to make one Circa 1987. Id put it together much like Steve's Monte SS, TPI 350 with auto, wit a two-tone paint job, take the badges off an 04 GTO so it says 5.7 Liters, a set of Formula or GTA crosslace wheels, some parts from the Monte, GN, etc etc and then an aftermarket hood with twin scoops.
