so my power supply died last week. went to best buy got a new one and it was good for 4 days, and now the new one is dead too. Uhh, wtf? Anyone know whats going on?

Is it on a power strip or just a plain outlet, could be some wiring issues. Check the Power supply voltage switch that is on the power supply, (220v vs 110V). Thats all I got man, hope you get to the bottom of everything. 8-)

power strip. it's been connected the same way since 2003

is it a desktop? did you play with the red switch on the back of the ps? and does the pwr strip have a surge protector?

yeah cuz when i put the new power supply in it was perfect. and now my computer wont turn on again.

i get nothing. with the original power supply 2 days before it went it took like 3 seconds before it initially turned on from pressing the power button. and then it just wouldnt turn on. threw a new power supply in it and it was all good. I just got home from work this evening, go to turn it on, and I got nothing.

and im going to assume you replaced the power cord. either it could just be another faulty pwr supply, which is possible, or a short somewhere. i shorted a computer out after accidentaly bending one pin into another

the new power supply came with a new cord. I was careful putting in the power supply. I even grounded myself as to not short out the mother board.

i say return that supply for a new one or test to see if theres any power comin out of the molex ends. there is a fan inside the ps see if that comes on

IMO something els in your system is about to fry possibly a video card,do you do any type of overclocking?

I would just use the warranty card, and get another one, if the same thing happens, you know it wasn't the power supply

Sound like bad capacitors on the motherboard and not the power supply. Look at the board and look at the little cans. If they look like the tops have been exploded or are convex the caps have gone. Is it a Dell PC by chance?

What he said,I've had a video card rip through 3 psu's before I found out it was the problem.
Just run a check on everything els if you have some older compatible parts laying around try swapping them in with the ones you currently have.

There was however alot of dust collected around the fan for I guess what would be the processor? (idk much about computers. The fan was on top of what looked to be cooling fins) And it's not a dell. It's a compaq. I'm just surprised the computer is even still running strong (got it in 2003)

Dell PC's are notorious for having those freakin capacitors bursting, we have a ****load of them go bad
