welp, today i fired up the iroc for the first time since november.

i let it idle for 10 mins, drove it for 15, let it sit, then drove it for another 1.5 hours. got a fresh tank of 89 gas, no studdering or anythign noticeable at all.. pulled up to the inspection station in Plainfield NJ, waited 30 mins, i could smell the exhaust and thought, damn i'll fail

went in, passed for everything EXCEPT CO levels

NOx : standard . 1146 mine 418
HC standard: 152 mine 131
Co standard .86% MINE 3.54% fail

WONDERING WHAT CAUSED this.. i read on one forum that it might be oil int he combustion chambers.. but i havnt had this problem ever, oil level is always good

maybe it was that the car had sat with stabil in it for 5 months.. or maybe that the cat is about 6 yrs old..

i just need the car to pass and get the sticker, so i can get rid of my Edelbrock headers (leaking bad) and tha AIR tube setup.. and install my Dyno Don's headers with new y pipe and new cat...

damn, any dieas suggestions!??!

it was AWESOME driving the car around for a few hours today tho, been a while!

why not just go to a private inspection place thats a little shady

Your headers are leaking bad?

IIRC excessive CO is often from a rich condition.

I gotta take my car for inspection this month too. I hope you are able to get yours to pass. Maybe this graph I found that shows AFRs and the levels of different emissions gasses can be of some help.

Incomplete combustion - tune up time with fresh gas and oil change, double check your timing.

ok, took it to a local mechanic i know, he quickly did a look over and noticed a vacum leak, we then adjusted the timing, and put it on the machine... all the levels came down...

NOx standard 1146 mine 23
HC standard 152 mine 74
CO standard .86% mine .. .39% = PASS

so, i probably could have found it myself, but I had a bad vacum line/connection...

so, now I have a disgusting looking light purple sticker on the car 3/2011.. but at least I know the car is running good..

im probably going to do seafoam anyways over the summertime, and once the new headers go on, a magnaflow cat.. or maybe no cat.. as well as fuel filter, A.I.R. system delete, driveshaft loop, replace speedometer gears, undercoating/rustproofing, and getting the stripe design worked out and put on the car.

thx for the help and advice everybody.. hope to see people soon at a meet

Cool! Good news.

Seafoam before you change the cat, then put the new cat in with the new exhaust. The 3hp you lose is not worth the problems.
